Into the Airwaves Lyrics

From an empty room on the first floor
As the cars pass by the liquor store
I deconstruct my thoughts at this piano
And it’s all that I can do to stay
But all the things that I didn’t say to you
before you moved across the country

And from the burning building where I lay
As I watch the stars become the day
The L.A. girls are lacing up their sneakers
They run the boardwalks and the beach
This fishbowl life is all they need
It’s everything I needed too
...until I heard the news.

I’ll send this message through the speakers
...You told me that you moved
I’ll cross this country on a frequency

I am slippin' through
I am slippin' through
I am slippin' into the airwaves
And this is nothing new
You are slipping through my fingers and into the airwaves
The static’s where you’ll find me...

From the corner by the studio
The gold-soaked afternoon come slow
I deconstruct my thoughts and I am walking by
And on Third Street, the freak show thrives
Santa Monica’s alive
Something’s not so right inside
Living with the news...

I’ll send this message through the speakers
...You told me that you moved
I’ll cross this country on a frequency...

I am slippin' through
I am slippin' through
I am slippin' into the airwaves
the static’s where you’ll find me
And this is nothing new
You are slipping through my fingers and into the airwaves,
into the airwaves

So hang on, it’s gonna be a hard day
So hang on, don’t panic, don't panic,
there simply is no need
It’s gonna be a hard day
It’s gonna be a hard day
Don’t panic, don't panic
we are hangin' in
we are hangin' in

I am slippin' through
I am slippin' through
I am slippin' into the airwaves
the static’s where you’ll find me
And this is nothing new
You are slippin' through my fingers and into the airwaves
into the airwaves

It’s gonna be a hard day
It’s gonna be a hard day
So hang on, don’t panic, don't panic,
there simply is no need
It’s gonna be a hard day
It’s gonna be a hard day
It’s gonna be a hard day
Don’t panic, don't panic
we are hangin' in
It's gonna be a hard day
we are hangin' in
it’s gonna be a hard day
We are hangin' in

I find it funny that the friend Andrew supposedly wrote this about moved back before he had time to record the song. Har har.

Something Corporate is my favorite band. Bet you never would have guessed with my user name, eh? One of my heroes is Andrew McMahon. Honestly, what a cool guy. Anyway, I haven't posted on this site for about 3 years, and I'm sure the last post was for a Something Corporate song. I was lucky enough to hear Konstantine as my first Something Corporate song. And with JM, it's equally good. I'm really excited for August 9th. I just wanted to take a chance to wish Andrew a speedy recovery and to keep his head high. You are truly my favorite musician of all time, and I know that means more to you than it does to most. To Andrew McMahon, Milwaukee, Wisconsin loves you, get better big guy and we'll see ya soon.

i...love...this...song...

andrew is a brilliant writer & musician. the combination of his voice, the drums & the piano in the beginning of this song is amazing. i wish more music incorporated the piano...the final sound is quite impressive.

None of you are talking about the meaning of the song haha. But I think this song truely explains the album. A musician myself, cough myspace.com/edenhallrock cough, um, alot of messages and whatnot are always covered with vague metaphors and whatnot. Like Coheed and Cambria; their newest album - if you listen REALLY CLOSELY - is about how Claudio, the lead singer, went on tour only to find out his girlfriend was cheating on him. I'd like to think of Jack's Mannequin as an extended storyline to "Konstantine." I think that this song in particular is about how he misses that girl and has no idea where she is, so he's making this album in general for her to find him. So why not do it with SoCo? 'Cause everyone in SoCo writes collectively together. So he did it himself. That's why he goes, "The static's where you'll find me." He's giving clues to the girl from "Konstantine" (I think her realy name is Krystal) to listen closely. That's just me though.

I love this song. The lyrics are sort of cryptic...they almost don't make sense, I don't think you can really explain them. But they still click with you.

to me the lines: This fishbowl life is all they need It’s everything I needed too ...until I heard the news.

and

Something’s not so right inside Living with the news...

to me this seams like l.a life was so perfect for him until he got the news about his illness? just a thought

@finallyfree It's almost a scary preminition, because Everything in Transit had been put together and almost ready for release when he got his diagnosis, so this was before that happened. In the Dear Jack doco he talks a lot about how he mentions doctors and sickness throughout Everything in Transit and what a strange coincidence it ended up being.
