Home Lyrics
Rolling down the road
Going no where
Guitar packed in the trunk
Somewhere round mile marker 112
Papa started hummin the funk
I gotta jones in my bones before we know
We were singing this melody
Stop the car pulled out the guitar
Halfway to New Orleans
Said take me home
Take me home
Could feel the sun about to rise
When I realized we had nothing to fear
It's just me and my daddy and a kid named Cole
Making music that nobody could hear
And then the sun let up and it split the night
spilling over our jubilee,
10,000 cars by the side of the road,
grooving far as the eye can see
Said take me home
Take me home
Said take me home
Said take me home
This greyhound is delta bound mama
Baby boy done finally found
Said this greyhound is delta bound mama
Said take me home
Hot damn you should have felt the groove
Like I was swimming in a sea of soul
The sun was rising and the day was hot
And we was all about to lose control
My daddy turned his face up towards the sky
And I knew that there was nothing to lose
I felt the crowd breathe in and I closed my eyes
And we disappeared into the groove
Said take me home
Said take me home
Take me home
Said take me home
Straight from the water
Straight from the water children
[repeat]
You don't know nothing about this
Take me home
Said take me home

Songs like this don't come around too often.
Broussard sings 'Home' with a sensationally soulful voice that's not often heard these days - and it's even more amazing after finding out the singer is little-known white kid in his early 20s. His performance gives the impression that he has experience beyond his years, and shows that he has the ability to tell a great story through lyrics. Add that to the combination of soul, rock, blues, spirituals, and essences of many other styles and you have a song that truly unique in today's music scene - and one that's absolutely fantastic.
Most musicians feel lucky to create one song of this quality in their entire career - Marc's done it on his second album.
I first heard this song when Marc performed it on Late Night with Conan O' Brien, and I've been playing it on repeat ever since.
An interesting tidbit. The "straight from the water" part of 'Home' seems to be derived from a slave spiritual (I think it may have been used in the Underground Railroad) with similar rhythm and melody. The spiritual went:
Wade in the water Wade in the water, children Wade in the water God's gonna trouble the water
The first three lines of the spiritual are very similar to the "Straight from the water" sung in 'Home."
Just thought this was interesting.
Older live version of this song and a whole intro section that is a negro spiritual. the only part that has survived to current version is the "straight from the water" lyric. On a side note you used to be able to buy "Straight from the water" bracelets on his website with the proceeds going to hurricane relief funds.

Fuck...this song is blasted all across one of the rock stations in my hometown like it's the new song by Christina Agulie...I can't fucking spell that bitch's last name...new song or something, and nobody comments on this. Well, it's under the radar and I hope it stays that way. By the way, best percussion beats of 2005 right here. Suck that, drum machine people!
i'm the opposite opinion, it seems most bands that go under the radar don't get to good of a lifespan in the music industry, so i hope that something from the album hits so we can here more from the guy. And drum machines suck, they were developed for a bunch of talentless people who cant even sing so decided to feed off peoples ignorance and make rap instead :)
Distinctive, soulful, amazing. The beat, the words, the voice make the adrenaline pump. The video is incredible.
Boy named Cope.... did he mean Citizen Cope? Anyone know?
He is definitely referring to Citizen Cope in the line, "It's just me and my daddy and a kid named Cope". He and Cope toured together back in 2005. I'd really like to know how far back they go. I love both artist music, two of my favorites.
