My Wandering Days Are Over Lyrics
You know my wandering days are over
Does that mean that I'm getting boring?
You tell me
I'm tired of listening to myself now
I'm tired of fixing things for Michael and the rest of them
You know my bip-bopping days are over
I hung my boots up and then retired from the disco floor
The centre of my so called being is
The space between your bed and wardrobe with the louvre doors
With the louvre doors
You know my celibate days are over
You put me straight on the finer points of my speech rehearsed
In the mirror of my steamy bathroom
Where the lino tells a sorry story in a monologue
In a monologue
Six months on, the winter's gone
The disenchanted pony
Left the town with the circus boy
The circus boy got lonely
It's summer, and it's sister song's
Been written for the lonely
The circus boy is feeling melancholy
It's got to be fate that's doing it
A spooky witch in a sexy dress has been bugging me
With the story of the way it should be
With the story of Sebastian and Belle the singer
You know my one man band is over
I hit the drum for the final time and I walked away
I saw you in Japanese restaurant
You were doing it for business men on the piano, Belle
You said it was a living Hell
You said you were in Hell
Six months on, the winter's gone
The disenchanted pony
Left the town with the circus boy
The circus boy got lonely
It's summer, and it's sister song's
Been written for the lonely
The circus boy is feeling melancholy

Beautiful song, I always get chills from the last two lines: "You said it was a living hell, you said you were in hell"
Awesome, awesome song.
he wrote this song before he met isobel, which is really cool.
actually, i think it was "belle and sebastian" that he wrote before he met her, but i think he wrote this right after he met her (at a new year's party or somesuch).
Is there an interview in which Stuart talks about meeting Isobel and his writing? I'm rather interested in knowing more about it.
Found it. http://beingtheremag.com/feature.php?id=113&issue=17 if anyone else is a bit curious.
i hate to say anything negative about b&s but i agree with Swedish, the "disenchanted pony" part really grates on me! but "now the centre of my so called being is the space between your bed and wardrobe with the louvre doors" is really lovely. it basically sums up the feeling of falling in love, and wanting nothing else in life than to be with the person you love. i also love the key change (is it a key change or just a different chord, i'm not good with musical terminology) in the last verse, "you were doing it for businessmen on the piano, belle," it changes the mood completely but works really well. i'm sad they didn't use this in the Juno movie, they almost did and it appears on the extended soundtrack, but never in the actual film, which is a shame.
the chorus doesn't exactly bother me, but it is sure as hell impenetrable.

almost worth it, though, for the way the melody is turned slightly sideways towards the end, when he sings:

(I expect there's a term in music theory for what he's doing, but I lack the experience to understand. is it simply a key change? they seem like brother and sister, come to think of it. or stepsister maybe.)

I am in total adoration of this song. It's so sweet and wistful and gorgeous.
this would be one of the best b&s songs ever if it werent for the fucking irritating chorus
