Orange Ball of Peace Lyrics
they wanted me to be a lawyer
they wanted me to work in a machine shop
they wanted me to be a desinger
but i came out on top
i'm a fireman
i'm a fireman
stand and watch the smoke
see the flames rise to the sky
stand and watch the flames climb higher
feel the smoke get into my eyes
i'm a fire man
i'm a fire man
they wanted me to work in a machine shop
they wanted me to be a desinger
but i came out on top
i'm a fireman
i'm a fireman
see the flames rise to the sky
stand and watch the flames climb higher
feel the smoke get into my eyes
i'm a fire man
i'm a fire man

I don't think the fact that the chorus could be heard as 'I'm a fire, man' and 'I'm a fireman' is a coincidence, and I think it's a pun. It's about somebody who's been living by the expectations of others for much of their life, and finds release in an act of self-destructive arson; possibly a fatal case of self-destructive arson.
According to TVTropes, this song is about one member of the Alpha Couple setting the other's house on fire.
Not sure about the TVTropes thing, don't know if this is an Alpha song. But, like the other 'Orange Ball' songs its about finding the key word in an unlikely place. Peace of mind in a raging inferno, which gives you an important role to play, works wel enough. The inferno could also be inside, as WearingaWire suggests
