Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd Lyrics
Hello again
Seem like forever between now and then
You look the same
I mean you look different but you haven’t changed
Funny to think how the time gets away
Funny how you take me right back again
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
I saw you laughin’ and I was afraid that I’d get in the way
I did not think I would see you again
So how have you been?
Do you remember, lose everything
Funny I think how the time gets away
Funny how you take me right back again
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
Saw you there dancin’ and I was afraid I might get in the way
I did not think I would see you again
Funny to think how the time gets away
Funny how you take me right back again
Funny the feeling when forever ends
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
I saw you there dancin’, well I was afraid I might get in the way
Never thought I would see you again
How have you been?
Watchin’ the years as they trickle away
It’s everything, how time gets away
Funny how you take me right back again
Steal me away
It’s like the first time I saw you, you do me that way
What should I say?
See you here standin’, and I am afraid I might get in the way
I never thought I would see you again
How have you been?
Do you remember I mean everything?
You steal me away
Like the first time I saw you, you do me that way
What can I say?
Saw you here standin’, well I am afraid I might get in your way.
Seem like forever between now and then
You look the same
I mean you look different but you haven’t changed
Funny how you take me right back again
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
I saw you laughin’ and I was afraid that I’d get in the way
So how have you been?
Do you remember, lose everything
Funny how you take me right back again
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
Saw you there dancin’ and I was afraid I might get in the way
Funny how you take me right back again
Funny the feeling when forever ends
Stole me away
First time I saw you, you did me that way
What should I say?
I saw you there dancin’, well I was afraid I might get in the way
How have you been?
Watchin’ the years as they trickle away
Funny how you take me right back again
Steal me away
What should I say?
See you here standin’, and I am afraid I might get in the way
How have you been?
Do you remember I mean everything?
Like the first time I saw you, you do me that way

Saw you here standin’, well I am afraid I might get in your way.

this is such a great song its pretty much my situation right now too =)
The whole new album is absolutely amazing, and I LOVE this song. =) I think I got most of the lyrics right, let me know if I have to change anything.
i absolutely love this song. its so cute. makes me happy. my fav on the cd..!
best song on the STAND UP. Totally in love with it... and like "flyinghorses"... i too can easily relate right now. Can't wait 'til I see dave live in a couple weeks. ah.
i love this song and it's beautifuly written. i think its about how he sees an old acquaintance and he's taken away by her but afraid at the same time because shes intimidating to him. anyway, great song.
this song, I think, is about how he sees someone who he liked when he was younger, but can nothing about, because one of his friends likes this girl as well, and he would not do that to his friend. He basically has to keep his love for this woman silent, but every now and then it just can't be held back...been there!
I agree, I think it's about meeting someone you remember (probably when you liked someone from your past) when and where you least expect it. I like how Dave indicates this in the title with "55th and 3rd", but not in the song...kind of interesting/unique. You remember them as they were at that age and find a striking resemblance between their current self. Because of this, it probably gives him the same feeling of intimidation combined with the lack of words due to his surprise. In other words I think his speechlessness is a combo of those two emotions (intimidation and utter surprise). Maybe going in the wrong direction with this song =/.
In any case I think this girl is either referring to the one in the song "Little Thing" that was not released. The lyrics are on SongMeanings so you can probably check em out. I dont know if Dave intended this to be the sequel or whatnot to the song, but its pretty cool to view it as one. Similar to Proudest Monkey => Big Eyed Fish.
In any case, can't wait to hear this live!
Yeah I agree too this song is most likeyl about Dave running into an ex-love or crush and is just intemidated by her but still loving the fact that he get's to be with her again even tho it's awkward, she stole him away.
This song makes me think of someone looking back on a past relationship with someone who they were completely taken with and infatuated with since the first time he set his eyes on her, I also feel there is an undertone where she possibility felt the same but the two of them never did anything about it because they were afraid of what might come of it, if it were to go sour. So instead of moving to the next step they stayed silent where they were until it became to painful for him to be around her and he walked away from her, and contact started to slip. Now he has seen her again and I think he’s battling with the emotions that have came about from their encounter. After a long time of not seeing her and forcing her to the back of his mind for his sanity’s sake she back and all the same feelings are back (Hello again, Seem like forever between now and then, You look the same, I mean you look different but you haven’t changed” but she has clearly moved on and he’s not sure how to approach this converstation and meeting. I believe that shows in the line “Never thought I would see you again, How have you been? Watchin’ the years as they trickle away”
I feel as if this brought back a part of his life he looks fondly upon but also didn’t mind keeping dormant in the distant parts of his mind, to avoid the anguish you hear in his voice when he talks about this subject.
Amazing song, amazing vocal, powerful content.
you're on a crowded intersection and see that someone that your heart sank for years ago, but never told them. You became close friends but felt that you both had that deep connection and yearned for more. Never expressed, but years later paths cross and eyes make contact from 50 yards away. Both of you run to talk, but both hold back as you did years before. Seeing her face brings a rush of all those memories of a beautiful time in his life, a magical time, wonder and destiny. I wonder about that "I might get in the way." and "See you" "Saw you" "standing" "dancing" "laughing." But maybe he never said anything to her and simply had a crush. I prefer the first scenario, but those lines make me think otherwise. I love the song anyway, the sax, and simple guitar, and percussion combine like a symphony with the soft and emotionally expressive vocals.
