"A sea shell in a sea of shells" The sea of "shells" are bullet shells and finding the sea shell within them supports the albums theme of opposites; in this case finding something beautiful amongst something ugly.

Catch Without Arms, according to Gavin, is based around the concept of two distinctly opposite things that, when put together, result in harmony. Sort of like Yin and Yang.

According to Gavin via the band's PureVolume page,

"On ‘Planting Seeds,’ one of the verses is from one person’s perspective and then the second verse is from the other person’s perspective; the chorus is the resolution of those two outlooks.”

This song was formerly known as "C-shells" back in late 2003 when dredg first played it live; both verses had the same lyrics then (basically a modification of the lyrics for the first verse of this final version).

I can't decide whether this or "Jamais Vu" is the best track on Catch Without Arms. Stunning song both musically and lyrically.

this is cool.....i love the whole different perspectives thing...i like the whole dark like poe thing too...im guessing hes referring to edgar allen poe the extremely morbid(for that time) poet. i guess that would make sense y he uses him as a simile for being "dark".... love 2 u.

My interpretation of the chorus was a little different than RockXWL's.

My first impression was that "Look what I have found" was meant in a sarcastic way. He thought that he had found something beautiful and special (the seashell being a metaphor for the love of his life), but in fact, he had simply found something common and ordinary (just another girl). Basically....Look what I have found! Just another seashell.

Kind of depressing, but a good song.

I agree with brett and Rock. I would also like to incorporate thoughtatwork's interpretation, as well. It does seem like the song is divided in two halves, based on two people's own interpretations of the same situation (a relationship, etc.). The chorus, with its ambiguity of "shells" only plays further upon how two people can have completely opposite/different interpretations of the same situation (especially a mutual situation like a relationship).
