Green Machine Lyrics
I've got a war inside my head
It's got to set itself free
I've got a wheel inside my head
A wheel of understanding
I'm loading, loading, my war machine
I'm contributing to the system
The breakdown scheme
I'm a shutting down, I’m shutting down, your greed for green
I am here to gun it down, gun it down
I see pretty flowers at my feet
Cool breeze, clean air, hospitality
Pretty please, pretty please, pretty please
Get the hell away from me
I'm loading, loading, my war machine
I'm contributing to the system
The breakdown scheme
I'm a shutting down, I’m shutting down, your greed for green
I am here to gun it down, gun it down
I've got a war inside my head
It's got to set itself free
I've got a wheel inside my head
A wheel of understanding
I'm loading, loading, my war machine
I'm contributing to the system
The breakdown scheme
I'm a shutting down, I’m shutting down, your greed for green baby
I am here to gun it down, gun it down
It's got to set itself free
I've got a wheel inside my head
A wheel of understanding
I'm contributing to the system
The breakdown scheme
I'm a shutting down, I’m shutting down, your greed for green
I am here to gun it down, gun it down
Cool breeze, clean air, hospitality
Pretty please, pretty please, pretty please
Get the hell away from me
I'm contributing to the system
The breakdown scheme
I'm a shutting down, I’m shutting down, your greed for green
I am here to gun it down, gun it down
It's got to set itself free
I've got a wheel inside my head
A wheel of understanding
I'm contributing to the system
The breakdown scheme
I'm a shutting down, I’m shutting down, your greed for green baby
I am here to gun it down, gun it down

its about the hulk
You pretty much got it right there, Infinity Surreal. Basically about a conflict in your mind, whether to be greedy (hence the name, "Green Machine", which I think derives from the slang "greens" which means money) or to do good things, and be happy.
This line shows his conflict the most; "I see pretty flowers at my feet Cool breeze, clean air, hospitality Pretty please, pretty please, pretty please Get the hell away from me"
He's sort of embracing the beauty of flowers, when the greedy part of him takes over and tells the good side of him to basically fuck off.
There's my two cents....
this song is a case of simple hostility and confliction within one's own mind and soul. it's about the anger and indignance one has towards self; due to an irreconcilable relationship that one has with one's true self and the bitterness that is birthed by one's striving to be one thing (true, open, honest, and forthright) and the corrupted nature of one when acted upon by society over periods of time, one battles in constant war within their own consciousness in perpetuity. at the song's core and its apex, it's all about frustration with the human condition. but i digress... it simply steamrolls. it's beauty in sonic spacetime.
who cares what it mean B4TRS is one on the best ALBUMS (that means every trackis good) i've ever heard. absolutely excellent album
its sounds like a mind war. but then shuttin down your greed for green sounds like a fight against money.
maybe he wanna talk about conflict between marijuana(or drugs in general) and normal life... if you put all lyrics together thumb, green machine, 50 million year trip, freedom run...
It's a dirty rock song...heavy and yet accessible. These guys rock for metalheads.
Great song.
from what i hear kyuss was a really non-commercial band, even tho they were approached by major labels and MTV (who wanted to film their generator bashes) they always turned it down in favour of doing their own thing for fun not profit.
I think this song is about that, a green machine is a money-making enterprise, like they could have turned their band into. and even tho he fights his own greed (the war in his head) he has a "wheel of understanding" of the bigger picture to avoid selling out, which kyuss truly managed to do.
the second verse is "hi-fidelity" (ie music) not "hospitality". he's saying he has all he wants, nature, clean air, and his music, he doesn't need the money they're offering him. Kyuss really enjoyed being kyuss, playing their songs. He's doing his bit to break down the green machine, by not giving in to the truckloads of money they were being offered to turn it into a job.
sorry i take it back, im pretty sad to say so but it does sound more like hospitality, not hi-fidelity. i still prefer my meaning though... at least its backed up with lyrics and not just inane rambling
Is it really "the breakdown scheme"? It always sounded like "up and down stream" to me. I don't know what either means. I really don't get internal conflict from this song. The emotion projected is more like confidence, almost to a point of megalomania. I agree with Ductape that it has something to do with a philosophy of nature and rock and roll and probably drugs, as a means of personal liberation.
