Song Beneath the Song

i love this song. she totally tries to avoid the problem by contemplating the mechanics of a song. but obviously the it's the song beneath this song she wants you to think about. like the face behind the mask. i hope this makes some sort of sense.

yeah, i think this is just maria telling us that love songs aren't supposed to go on endlessly with cryptic lyrics nobody'll bother to understand. but, instead, by having conor accompany her, she shows us that under all of that unimportant context, all that really matters is the music behind it, the song beneath the song and you sharing it with the one you love. i love maria taylor's voice, it's perfect; smooth and silky. at first, when i read that conor was accompanying her, i figured their voices would clash horribly but really, this song is even better with his voice in it.

This song is so soothing... I could fall asleep to it. Its probably my favorite on the cd. I think I hear conor oberst singing along on the second verse, but I'm not sure.

He is, I can hear him. It sounds kind of strange though - Maria accompanying Conor is cool, Conor accompanying Maria is kind of weird, since her voice is so silky and his is sort of raw. But nontheless, I love the lyrics in this one :)

This song is very wonderful, but I don't like Conor showing up. I mean, I love his music and I think he's a wonderful singer/songwriter but it just doesn't feel right.

I must be deaf but I can't hear Conor.
