We Do This To Ourselves Lyrics
You've spent a lifetime running away,
Cold feet on cobblestone at the break of day,
I still remember everything,
The way we laughed in front of the store closing,
We're finding a way to move along without you, and we do it,
Finding a way to move along without you, and we do this to ourselves,
I think it's safe to say you were right,
Come back to your place, yeah, I think I just might,
I still remember everything,
Every mistake and every apology,
We're finding a way to move along without you, and we do it,
Finding a way to move along without you, and we do this to ourselves,
And the words above this page, are falling into place,
One down, three to go,
And my eyes are turned away, smile starts to fade,
And I know that I'm alone,
We're finding a way to move along without you, and we do it,
Finding a way to move along without you, and we do this to ourselves,
And we do this to ourselves,
Cold feet on cobblestone at the break of day,
I still remember everything,
The way we laughed in front of the store closing,
Finding a way to move along without you, and we do this to ourselves,
Come back to your place, yeah, I think I just might,
I still remember everything,
Every mistake and every apology,
Finding a way to move along without you, and we do this to ourselves,
One down, three to go,
And my eyes are turned away, smile starts to fade,
And I know that I'm alone,
Finding a way to move along without you, and we do this to ourselves,
And we do this to ourselves,

I love this song! This band is amazing!
Unfortunately, I can relate. I pretty much was completely abandoned by the person I most depended on. Kinda sucks right? Yeah, well. I've moved on.

i think this song is not about the singer leaving, but about the person he's singing to leaving at a time when they were really needed, perhaps because of wrongs done to them previously.
It seems to me that the author and the one he/she is singing about separated under friendly terms. They hold no regrets for anything they ever did together, they were just different people and had to go their separate ways. I would say that the author is the more hurt of the two, but who knows for sure. That's the hardest part of break-ups, neither person knows quite how the other is feeling.
I saw Sherwood live last Fall, it was the first date I went on with the girlfriend I broke up with last week. I've never related to this kind of song more than right now. Regardless, I think we all have a lot to be happy about in this world, if we just dig deep.
