Goodbyes Lyrics
Sidewalks and street lights
You're clutching the suitcase
I'm fighting with broken eyes
We'll take the long way home
Your kisses and goodbyes
Are leaving my lips numb
I'm jealous of headlights
'Cause they're all that clings to you
I'll pray that our shoes
Melt in the pavement
We step back slowly
And I'll take the long way home
Just one more time
They'll be playing our, our song
Just one more time
They'll be playing our, our song
Sidewalks and street lights
You're clutching the suitcase
I'm fighting with broken eyes
We'll take the long way home
Just one more time
They'll be playing our, our song
Just one more time
They'll be playing our, our song
You're clutching the suitcase
I'm fighting with broken eyes
We'll take the long way home
Are leaving my lips numb
I'm jealous of headlights
'Cause they're all that clings to you
Melt in the pavement
We step back slowly
And I'll take the long way home
They'll be playing our, our song
Just one more time
They'll be playing our, our song
You're clutching the suitcase
I'm fighting with broken eyes
We'll take the long way home
They'll be playing our, our song
Just one more time
They'll be playing our, our song

I love the lyrics in this song, and especially when they sing it. It comes off as so powerful. I'm not exactly sure i understand the meaning totally, but it is still a great song.
JamisonParker is awesome.
T girl he's talking to has to leave and he wishes it didn't have to happen. "Your clutching the suitcase." - packing to leave "We'll take the long way home" -trying to spend the most time possible together "Your kisses and goodbyes are leaving my lips numb." kisses & goodbyes = leaving "I'm jealous of headlights cause they're all that clings to you." - The guy can't "cling"/hold her, but the headlights cling to her "I pray that our shoes melt in the pavement." - thus letting them stay together longer
I pray that our shoes melt in the pavement.
favorite line in this songg.
damn. i love ittt.
i think quietone has it down.
"We'll take the long way home"
he wants to just spend more time with her. Although I like this band, I do have to say that their lyrics need some work. The melodies are impressive, though.
best song on the album. fact. they disbanded. am devastated. fact.
this song really paints a picture in my head. --it's nighttime, and the boy and the girl are on a sidewalk in a neighborhood. it's quiet. streetlights are out. the girl has her suitcase, and she's leaving. "your kisses and goodbyes are leaving my lips numb." they are saying their last goodbyes, and of course, the boy doesn't want her to leave.
"i pray that our shoes melt in the pavement."
It's "Just one more time, they'll be playing our song" and not "Just one more time, don't you wanna' hear our song?"
Amazing. It bottles up the real feeling of extreme sadness and lonliness of seeing somebody you love to death go away, and when you know it won't be awhile untill you see them again and it hurts. One of the under appreciated songs on the cd.
Love the song. Love the album.
Pretty simple meaning. She's leaving. He's hanging onto the last moments with her.
