Inspired By The $ Lyrics
Closed window pane
I stare out all day
This room and the walls
We wait for the call
And slow like decay
This progress we made
Could you
Get to the point
Get it across
To the boys at the top of the ladder I'm climbing up
I have my doubts
This is a call
From my cage
Through the bars
Inspired by the dollar sign
That's dangling outside
Go on and get it right
Just stay the same way
Do it like you did it before
Remain the same
I stare out all day
This room and the walls
We wait for the call
And slow like decay
This progress we made
Get to the point
Get it across
To the boys at the top of the ladder I'm climbing up
I have my doubts
From my cage
Through the bars
Inspired by the dollar sign
That's dangling outside
Just stay the same way
Do it like you did it before
Remain the same

This song's pretty obvious, to me at least. I believe it's about bands making it big, and then getting big heads and being completely, as the song states, inspired by money and only money. Kenny claims that they'll remain the same no matter what and that bigger bands should get the point. Or at least, that's how I see it. It's good, It needed to be sung.
This song is awesome. Geniegirl has pretty much hit it on. It's really catchy too.
Isn't it "to the boys at the top of the ladder", as in corporate suits?
yah i think it's the boys at the top of the ladder
I actually think the song is about the trouble the Starting Line had with the label they were on. (They also, during the last warped tour, asked to be released from it). Kenny relates touring to a caged animal thats only freed to perform. Its only inspiration being $. The label/people at the top are telling them to "just do it like you did it before" and to "just stay the same shape" because they were so successful before. They think there is no need for change when really the band wants to and will inevitably change. The label is holding them back and decaying all the progress they made. Thus he says he has his doubts as to what that kind of life this band really has.
This song is anti-Geffen. They wanted TSL to redo "Best Of Me" for the album, and they also dictated everything they did. Thats why they have dropped them as a label.
I think there's a verse missing from this
