In Death - Is Death Lyrics
Iridescent to the searhing eyes, I’m all things vivid in a world of grey
So easily spotted, so easily claimed in this domain where all is prey
My thoughts a radiant beacon to the omnidirectional hunter-god radar
I’m a markerlight of flesh to these subconscious carnivores
I am them. I am teeth. I’m their arousal at the kill
Feasting on self. A schizoreality warp. The contradiction fulfilled
Focus the only means to see me back to life’s unending swirl
A reversal of passing away, as the world of dead, as away is now my origin
So easily spotted, so easily claimed in this domain where all is prey
I’m a markerlight of flesh to these subconscious carnivores
I am them. I am teeth. I’m their arousal at the kill
Feasting on self. A schizoreality warp. The contradiction fulfilled
A reversal of passing away, as the world of dead, as away is now my origin

"All things vivid in a world of grey." This could mean that Meshuggah's philosophy is "so easily spotted" by the mainstream of this hellish world, blamed for problems, though it is truly naming the problems. "They", meaning anyone with the ignorance to chastise Meshuggah's philosophy, just as they have the ignorance to live out their lives as "Hollow Men".
The "omnidirectional hunter-god radar" is in my eyes the tendency of the ignorant to seek out the different and anything threatening their meaningless lives, in this case, his thoughts. He is "a markerlight of flesh to these subconscious carnivores", suggesting that he is marked on his flesh by them for the reason of his difference, and the word subconscious suggests to me that they are even ignorant of their own ways.
Everything about this song makes me think about my existentialist views. People see anything that threatens them as destruction, even though this thing, (in context, Meshuggah's or related metal, or followers of metal) may cause good on different levels. Just as they would only see an earthquake as destruction, not as an altering of soil.
I think this song is about how all humans wish to have power over others but rarely do they admit it. They love violence and get a thrill from it but at the same time they scorn it because of their views
Excellent song. Crunching guitar work, very dark, very interesting rythms, very Meshuggah. Me likes. :)
