Sons Into Daughters Lyrics

In Storyville that fucked up cop
Hipped on prescription pills
That brought my heart to a stop
I want to tell you
There's a riot coming
Like a drug in the water
A punch in the stomach
Makes sons into daughters
I met a girl on the square
Who taught me how to kill my cares
Once that’s done, man, there's nothing to do
Time's running backwards for me and you
There's a riot coming
Like a drug in the water
A punch in the stomach
Makes sons into daughters
My body's running but I don't see why it bothers
Sent down to jail with this friend of mine
Who wouldn't close both eyes
But kept one shut all the time
To cover the thing he was scared of
While he watched with the other
There was a riot coming
Like a drug in the water
A punch in the stomach
Makes sons into daughters
There’s a riot coming
There’s a riot coming
There’s a riot coming

me too........actually i always yell at them "to shut the fuck up". it's very frustrating, they're so inconsiderate, he just wants to sing his song.

some people talk to tv's, but i talk to my stereo....

The angst in me loves that. More than belief.

Yeah I know Elliott changes his lyrics a lot. But I always heard "In storyville, I fuck to cop. And I'm on prescription pills." That always made a lot more sense to me. #1 because much of his persona was based on excessive drug use which was actually usually only metaphor. #2 it makes more sense with the song to me. Although he does change perspective a lot in his songs from 1st to 3rd person and back again and changing tenses. #3 plus "copping" is a recurring theme for him. Cops are also a reccuring theme: "She took the oldsmobile...the cops were running around the scene..." "Always fears cities finest follow right behind." But to me the other way just makes more sense. Any thoughts?

Of course when he does use the cops as a reference he uses them to represent order much as he uses the army to represent authority. "I'm a policeman directing traffic keeping everything moving and everything static." This use would contrast well with the fact that there is a "riot coming." I actually like to think of him as a fucked up traffic director sending everybody in the wrong direction. Good shit.
