The Moon Is in the Gutter Lyrics
The moon is in the gutter
And the stars wash down the sink
I am the king of the blues
I scrape the clay off my shoes
And weigh down the butter
Gutter blues
The moon blind my eyes
With open cataracts
As I cut through the saw mills
And the stacks
Leapin' over the gulley
Where I would one day take Lucy
Then wash up my hands
In the gutter
Blues
Such a long way from home
Just me and the moon
Is in the gutter
All my plans are flushed down the drain
I wander lonely
As the clouds over her memories
And her mound
Then lie down in the bitter
Gutter blues
And the stars wash down the sink
I am the king of the blues
I scrape the clay off my shoes
And weigh down the butter
Gutter blues
With open cataracts
As I cut through the saw mills
And the stacks
Leapin' over the gulley
Where I would one day take Lucy
Then wash up my hands
In the gutter
Blues
Just me and the moon
Is in the gutter
All my plans are flushed down the drain
I wander lonely
As the clouds over her memories
And her mound
Then lie down in the bitter
Gutter blues

just about a man wandering aimlessly, lost, perhaps after a breakdown of relationship
Has it something to do with the film "Moon in the gutter"(1983)? Otherwise, what is it about Moon and gutter?
There's a poetic chinese saying about moon and gutter in fact (dated back to 1200s), I was surprised the western culture relates moon and gutter too. Pure coincidence?

"Moon in the gutter" (in french "La lune dans le caniveau" ), movie by Jean Jacques Beneix, was inspired by the same title novel by David Goodis (1953). So you'll have to go back to that novel to see if there's some kind of relation with the song. I didn't read the novel.

Well if i dont rememeber bad the song was in the movie with the same name and if you read the sinopsis u instantly understand the song... The movie is about a man whose sister was raped and then she killed herself so he goes back everynight to the place to remember that he will kill the perpretator if he realise who it was...
