Lightnin' Strikes Lyrics
Listen to me, baby, you gotta understand
You're old enough to know the makings of a man
Listen to me, baby, it's hard to settle down
Am I asking too much for you to stick around
Every boy wants a girl
He can trust to the very end
Baby, that's you
Won't you wait but 'til then
When I see lips beggin' to be kissed (stop)
I can't stop (stop)
I can't stop myself
(Stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again
Nature's takin' over my one-track mind
Believe it or not, you're in my heart all the time
All the girls are sayin' that you'll end up a fool
For the time being, baby, live by my rules
When I settle down
I want one baby on my mind
Forgive and forget
And I'll make up for all lost time
If she's put together fine
And she's readin' my mind (stop)
I can't stop (stop)
I can't stop myself
(Stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again
And again and again and again
Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again
There's a chapel in the pines
Waiting for us around the bend
Picture in your mind
Love forever, but 'til then
If she gives me a sign
That she wants to make time (stop)
I can't stop (stop)
I can't stop myself
(Stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again
And again and again and again
Lightning is striking again
And again and again and again
You're old enough to know the makings of a man
Listen to me, baby, it's hard to settle down
Am I asking too much for you to stick around
He can trust to the very end
Baby, that's you
Won't you wait but 'til then
I can't stop (stop)
I can't stop myself
(Stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
Believe it or not, you're in my heart all the time
All the girls are sayin' that you'll end up a fool
For the time being, baby, live by my rules
I want one baby on my mind
Forgive and forget
And I'll make up for all lost time
And she's readin' my mind (stop)
I can't stop (stop)
I can't stop myself
(Stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
And again and again and again
Lightning is striking again
Waiting for us around the bend
Picture in your mind
Love forever, but 'til then
That she wants to make time (stop)
I can't stop (stop)
I can't stop myself
(Stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
And again and again and again
Lightning is striking again
And again and again and again

To me this song is about a man having an urge to cheat on his girlfriend because she's not that serious and is not ready to settle down. He can't control himself when he sees some woman that he wants because- like the song says... he cant help himself and lightning strikes again... and he finds himself cheating again. He wants to have one girl on his mind but his girlfriend isn't doing much for him.
How can a song about a self-confessing "pig" be so darn catchy? LOL. It's simple, he's telling the girl that when he's ready to settle down, he wants settle down with her. But, he's not ready yet because he wants to make time with every girl that gives him a sign. But he keeps asking her to stay with him until he's done sewing his wild oats.
At least he's being honest, right?!
oh come ON people! This is like one of the BEST songs of the 60's!
Hell yeah man. I hear it all the time on the local Oldies station... it rules.
I'm not quite sure ... is it about infidelity? Because the only other option is date rape. Either way ... it definitely shows how attitudes about sex and romance have changed.
i origionally felt this song was about rape, but after years of listening to it, i believe it is about infidelity. Just am not sure if it is about him or her cheating.
Maybe "lightning strikes" and a half-witted monster is born, incapable of thinking and without moral capability.
You know. Frankenstein.
Or irony of the old adage "lightning never strikes twice". Guess it does with this guy.
For goodness sakes. It's not about "date rape." Read the lyrics. "the makings of a man." People used to recognize this mean guys what it says and is obviously true for most men - they can get horny easily. He wants to marry the "Listen to me baby" woman, but has to sow oats and asks her to wait until that period is over.
It has nothing to do with her not being serious; yes he is a "self confessing" pig, but that is how guys are wired. Grow up and get over it.
