And When I Die (Peter, Paul and Mary cover) Lyrics
I'm not scared of dying
And I don't really care
If it' s peace you find in dying,
Well then, let the time be near
If it's peace you find in dying
Well then dying time is near
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause it's
Cold way down there
I hear that it's
Cold way down there, yeah
Crazy cold, way down there
And when I die, and when I'm gone
There'll be, one child born
In this world
To carry on, to carry on
Now troubles are many
There as
Deep as a well
I can swear there ain't no Heaven
But I pray there ain't no hell
Swear there ain't no Heaven
And I'll pray there ain't no hell
But I'll never know by livin'
Only my dyin' will tell, yes only my
Dyin' will tell, oh yeah
Only my dyin' will tell
And when I die, and when I'm gone
There'll be, one child born, in this world
To carry on, to carry on
Yeah yeah
Give me my freedom
For as long as I be
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
And all I ask of dyin' is to
Go naturally, only wanna
Go naturally
Here I go!
Hey hey
Here come the devil
Right behind
Look out children, here he come
Here he come, hey
Don't wanna go by the devil
Don't wanna go by the demon
Don't wanna go by satan
Don't wanna die uneasy
Just let me go
Naturally
And when I die, and when I'm dead
Dead and gone
There'll be
One child born, in our world
To carry on, to carry on
And I don't really care
If it' s peace you find in dying,
Well then, let the time be near
Well then dying time is near
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause it's
Cold way down there
I hear that it's
Cold way down there, yeah
Crazy cold, way down there
There'll be, one child born
In this world

I always interpreted the "one child born" line as a fairly generic reference to the continuation of life-- the singer is pointing out that life will continue even after his (or her, it was written by a woman after all!) own time ends.
maybe he thinks that with the death of someone baby is born to take the spot up?
hes saying that death is not a factor to be scared of because when you leave earth a new baby will be born in return basically.
Very funny and insightful lyrics: "I can swear there ain't no Heaven But I pray there ain't no hell."
The one child born bit means he plans to father one child to replace himself. It doesn't imply the baby will be born at the same instant as his death.
I've always thought of the "one child born in the world to carry on" was a reference to the continuation of the soul through reincarnation. This child will "carry on" the existence of the singer into another lifetime. Just my 2 cents.
The general theme of this song is obviously death and passage into whatever comes after. The only thing I'm not sure about is the :one child born." If anyone has any insight on that, I'd like to hear it.
I'm thinking thats a reference to reincarnation? I dunno, i'm not familiar with the artist, but sounds like he thinks that when he dies he's gonna start over with a clean slate
