i think the chorus sums this song up, he just wants to have a good time in his life without hurting anyone, but throughout the song he is naming examples of people he would like to be like, he eventually comes to trying to emulate Jesus Christ, realizes that being just like Jesus would be impossible and concludes that he should just do the best he can.
