this is a really good song. its self-empowering, for me anyway, especially after problems in relationships. it guess its about starting over and i can definetly see how this can relate to drugs.

It is very spitefull. He wants her to know that all that she had become was because of him. He hates her because it is easier to move on that way. The get busy living or get busy dying is to mean that if you don't live your life, then you are only dying slowly. He wants her to hate him so that she can move on as well. He really loves her and all of this hurts him a lot. The drug addiction points remains valid as well. The more opinions, the better. I enjoy all perspectives on a song.

From my interpretation it's about a relationship (be it romantic/friendship/) between two people who have become intertwined so deeply that they have become substantial to each others essence (what makes you, you) if you will, and basically without each other you become a shell/empty. Emphasizing how insignificant an event or situation no matter how hard it drives each other apart should not break or dissolve that bond. That is just my interpretation of the relationship between the subjects the lyrics delve deeper it has a tone of hatred as if something came between the two that was unforgivable but it reasons that you shouldn't allow that to break the bond. "Callous rigid empty because of you" how one would withdrawing from said bond would feel. To wrap things up, tone of anger regret but in a way that expresses advice and wisdom for future relationships. Of course this is just my point of view/interpretation but artist don't always have a definite meaning . This song is about a "lost" (or not so) lover that has hurt Chad. You can probably figure that it is his ex-wife. I think that this is the more angry between the last two song in this cd, although it is somewhat softer sounding. While Pulling the String is heavier, it is more poetically written and more heartfelt. This song, however, is kind of an in your face, "Your nothing without me!" I really like the build up at the begining as well.

Without hope and without a "light" in your life theres not much to live for, hence get busy dying.

this song reminds me of my life as a drug addict. it shows that there is no blame for noone but yourself and that the drugs just make you empty inside. the lyric get busy living relates to me as drug recovery...or get busy dying relates to me as an active addict where the drugs just kept killing me...thats just how i interpret it, everyone has their own opinion...

this song is like split for me. like on one hand he's happy to de out of the relationship with the chorus basically saying that she wasn't worth it and she's nothing now. but then at the same time he feels like nothing without her with the lines Calloused Rigid Empty Because of you and I always seem to find myself alone Jaded shell of being Porous as a stone
