New Order Lyrics
How does it feel to treat me like you do?
When you've your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, How do I feel
Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today
I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel
Now I stand here waiting...
I thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold
When you've your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, How do I feel
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel
I thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold

good song, just heard it on the radio.
To me it sounds like he could be talking about a wedding. I'm probably wrong, but that's what I picture while listening to this song. Either way, it is a GREAT song.
This is a tricky song, but I think it has to do with a new order between men and women, the rolls they now play. He seems to have a submissive position outlining the extent of change.
Its about the Falklands war. (A war fought by Britain against Argentina in 1982).
Its the words of a soldier going into war.
I always thought it had a more sinister meaning...Giving yourself over to Satan (or a woman...same thing pretty much)
"When you've laid your hands upon me, and told me, who you are." You've just laid with Satan and [s]he told you who [s]he is.
"I thought I was mistaken, I thought I heard your words." Clearly you'd be confused and wondering if you heard right.
"Those who came before me, lived through, their vocations, from the past until completion, they'll turn away no more.' Ever sincve the Devil has been around he's been roping the unwary human into slavery.
"And still I find it so hard, to say what I need to say." Ah, the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled is making us think he doesnt exist...New Order is telling us, but its hard to say what they need to say without being cryptic about it.
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me, just how I should feel today." The Devil tells you how to feel, think, hate, kill, shoot, shit...kinda like the US Marine Corp.
"I see a ship in the harbor." Ancient Greeks and Romans crossed over a river on a boat into Hades/Hell.
"I can and shall obey." Obey is something you do when you HAVE to and have no other choice.
"But if it wasn't for your misfortune, I'd be a heavenly person today." The misfortune is the Devil being thrown from heaven. If that hadnt happened, the human in the song would be a "heavenly person" and not on his way to hell.
"I thought I told you to leave me, when I walked down to the beach. Tell me how does it feel, when your heart grows cold, grows cold, cold." He is telling Satan to leave him alone as he walks down to the beach to board the boat, but asks the question "of" Satan what it is like to feel your heart grown cold, and you die &/or live forever with a cold, hard heart.
I have nothing to back me up, these are just my thoughts. But remember New Order is taken from the Nazis, and Nazi Germany is about as close to the Devil as any regime in history has ever been....I'm just sayin
