My Mathematical Mind Lyrics

I want to change your mind
said I want to set it right this time
I'm looking through you
you know who you are

and planning for the apocalypse is
not considered cool
I don't suggest it myself

you know I won't sweat

I want to change your ways
I said I'm gonna get it right one of these days
and I'm looking through you
riding the brakes

and bringing about the apocalypse is not considered cool
and you go settin' it up
but never give it a thought
just go settin' it up

my mathematical mind
can see the brakes
say I'm gonna stop
riding the brakes

no no no more riding the brakes
no more riding the brakes
said I'm gonna see the stakes
yeah I'm gonna see the stakes
yeah I'm gonna ride
yeah I'm gonna ride
I'm gonna see
yes I'm gonna see
I'm gonna see the stakes
I'm gonna see the stakes

I can't believes no one's posted for this song, it's my favorite on "Gimme Fiction". The lyrics remind me of a malfunctioning machine

I think it's about being logical in a relationship, but nothing is logical. Trying to do something, to be logical or at least, conventional and failing.

How good is this album?

I agree with omivoreron - I think it's about being too logical in a relationship, but then realising that you take a risk by being too calculating ("I'm gonna see the stakes") and letting yourself be irrational and let it go.

I always thought that this was about a relationship, so I thought that "planning for the Apocalypse" and "bringing about the Apocalypse" referred to the end of the relationship.

honestly i always thought he was saying "and you go setting it off / but never giving a thought / to those setting it up"

which i think is much more meaningful.

but whatever good song

don't overthink. often your first thought is correct.

It always sounded like "I'm gonna see mistakes" to me, but I guess I'm wrong. Either way... yeah.

I can see the logical relatonship thing, but then I also feel like it's someone who wants to change everybody's mind. It's a person who believes they are right, they can always see your problems, like I said, they're "gonna see mistakes", and they "wanna' change your mind". But then, they go backfire on themselves. Being so critical, they prepare for everything, apocalypses. It's a bad habit, they believe, and they wouldn't suggest for other people to be like them, but like smoking, they can't just stop.
