this song is about drew barrymore when she is older and in a abusive relationship and she calls out to her old friend E.T. for help.

Directed towards me75234....yeah, red and white being the opposite of black and blue might be true but that in no way relates to the song or how it would be her guiding light.

If we're going on the abusive relationship thing, which i do agree with, then red and white would symbolize an ambulance's lights and siren being her guiding light bringing her help. Also fits with a satellite being a 911 call.

Before I looked at the lyrics, I didn't listen too closely to the verses, and thought the song might be about a cell phone call to a lover, and hoping that it doesn't cut out.

I now think that it's about getting out of an abusive relationship, and looking back, thinking that you've had really bad luck in love, and hoping that either someone actually good will come along, or that you'll be able to get by on your own. And I have a bad feeling that the "two-way radio" is a 911 call.

these lyrics are all wrong.

how were the lyrics wrong... i read them and listened to make sure...they seem ok to me...

She's definatly getting over a hard relationship. I think by a "two way radio" she means where she communicates, in a way, with the world through music. So she's desperate, and getting out of a relationship, and she sees a satallite up in the sky, and it gives her somthing to hang on to.

On a deeper level, she is lonely, and just all around sad. So she may be clinging onto the satallite simply becuase she needs somthing to hang onto. And she knows that the satallite is sending information down to earth, and humans are sending info up to it. So she sings her feeble plea to this satallite " Satallite, save my life" in hopes that someone up there will hear her and care. She's reaching out, and just praying that the satillite, up in space, recieveing and sending massive amounts of information, will get her message. It's like, she's indirectly calling on God to help her. Yes, I definatly think the satillite is a symbol for God, and she just hopes she get's through.

That's just kinda the way I feel right now, so it's just my interrpretation...

It sounds like something along the lines of an abusive relationship: "Black and blue, I chose my way." Black and blue represents bruises, and the rest of the phrase talks about how she chooses to stay in a violent relationship.

"So I found my guiding light, lambant, flashing red and white through a starry night." Red and white is obviously the opposite of black and blue. I think that the "satellite" in this song is her image of the perfect man; the complete opposite of the one she's with.

In the chorus, she's begging for her knight-in-shining-armor of sorts to save her. While the "two-way radio" may just be a substitution for a satellite (since that is what a satellite essentially is), it may also be a telephone. This may suggest looking for someone else.

"All in all I fare the same wishing on an aeroplane as calling stars by name. A lonely song of freedom rings, in hope of someone listening." This obviously adds to the whole telephone thing, but it also shows that she's trying in vain to find someone else.

But that's just what I got from it.
