Jackie Blue Lyrics
Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives her life from inside of her room
Hides a smile when she's wearin' a frown
Ooh, Jackie you're not so down
You like your life in a free-form style
You'll take an inch but you'd love a mile
There never seems to be quite enough
Floating around to fill your lovin' cup
Ooh, Jackie Blue
What's a game girl, if you never lose?
Ask a winner and you'll probably find
Ooh, Jackie they've lost it sometime
Don't try to tell me that you're not aware
Of what you're doing and that you don't care
You say it's easy, just a natural thing
Like playing music, but you never sing
Ooh, Jackie Blue
Making wishes that never come true
Going places where you've never been
Ooh, Jackie Blue, you're going again
Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives a dream that can never come true
Making love is like sifting through sand
Ooh, Jackie, it slips through your hands
Every day in your indigo eyes
I watch the sun set but I don't see it rise
Moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine
You'd take the world but you won't take the time
Ooh, Jackie Blue
Lives her life from inside of her room
Makes you think that her life is a drag
Ooh, Jackie, what fun you have had
Ooh, Jackie
Ooh, Jackie
Ooh, Jackie
Ooh, Jackie, hey hey hey hey
Lives her life from inside of her room
Hides a smile when she's wearin' a frown
Ooh, Jackie you're not so down
You'll take an inch but you'd love a mile
There never seems to be quite enough
Floating around to fill your lovin' cup
What's a game girl, if you never lose?

Ooh, Jackie they've lost it sometime

This song was originally written about a guy, not a girl. Their record company (A&M, maybe?) recognized the radio potential of the song and asked the band to make "Jackie" a girl.

As far as the song goes, I agree with Buddha. This may be one of OMD's worst songs, ever. If you want to hear some inspiring OMD music, check out Standing on a Rock, Fly Away Home, It'll Shine When it Shines, Gypsy Forest, Spaceship Orion, Whippoorwill, Road to Glory, Beauty in the River, True Believer, ...I could go on and on.

hm, i always took this song as a girl who was a combination depressed / antisocial, and wanted a different life, better and more exciting than her own. "lives her life from inside of a room", "going places where she's never been" and "ooh jackie what fun you have had" makes me think of somebody who rejects reality and lives in dreamland to escape their troubles, and is content that way. not to over analyze haha. i think i got that idea from a personal experience.
Song originally written by Larry Lee only..it was about a guy named Jackie Blue, Dares producer heard Larry Lee playing this on the piano in the studio as they were waiting to do some recording, the producer asked him what the song was about and Larry said a friend of his that had a drug problem, the producer said "No" it's about a girl and it's a hit song, so he sent Steve Cash and Larry Lee into another room to work out new lyrics, the ones we all know today.......
i think this is about a girl name jackie lol... who is depressed b/c her life isnt going anywhere.. she lost a lover and can't move on w/ life and sits around in her room and uses drugs- the line- Don't try tell me that you're not aware of what you doing and that you don't care" and "Going places where you've never been"
I have never cared for it. It says that a girl who has no life or at least acts like she doesn't actually does and just plays mind games with the people around her.
So sad that this was probably their biggest hit-- it's such a wimpy song. Typical Larry Lee, though.
Good song, though. Just different than most of OMD'S.
I really like this song. I always took it to mean the girl tried to make everyone feel sorry for her but the singer saw through the guise... playing with everyone else's emotions ("poor Jackie's so unhappy!")... or something.
Great song one of my favorites
It's about a girl with a cluster B personality disorder. Probably histrionic…
Sad song.
I believe this song describes a woman with Borderline Personality Disorder. Nearly all of the verses seem to give this away.
"Hides a smile when she's wearin' a frown Ooh, Jackie you're not so down"
Typical of borderlines to always 'frown' at life, but happy inside because this victimhood makes them the center of attention.
"Don't try to tell me that you're not aware Of what you're doing and that you don't care You say it's easy, just a natural thing Like playing music, but you never sing"
Borderlines always dismiss their behavior, mind games, etc by 'projecting', 'gaslighting' and 'compartmentalizing'. They never take responsibility for their actions.
"Makes you think that her life is a drag Ooh Jackie, what fun you have had"
Puts on the 'act' of being a victim and completely enjoys the attention that she is getting and her manipulations of those around her.
This is a brilliantly written song with haunting guitar chords that seem to probe this serious mental illness.
