The Sun on His Back Lyrics
He's got the sun on his back
Where there are freckles I would die for
Is he a family man?
If I had the chance I'd show him all I am
I like the sound of his voice
I did my very best to impress him
Always my first choice
And I'm not ashamed to admit
I've been uncool, I've looked a fool
Do you feel lucky tonight?
Just go out in the night
Do you feel lucky tonight?
Just go out in the night
And you can wear a badge to show your delight
He's got the sun on his back
Just go out, it's alright
He's got the sun on his back
Just go out, it's alright
And I will wear a badge to show my delight
And I will wear a badge to show my delight
And I will wear a badge to show my delight
Where there are freckles I would die for
Is he a family man?
If I had the chance I'd show him all I am
I did my very best to impress him
Always my first choice
And I'm not ashamed to admit
I've been uncool, I've looked a fool
Just go out in the night
Do you feel lucky tonight?
Just go out in the night
And you can wear a badge to show your delight
Just go out, it's alright
He's got the sun on his back
Just go out, it's alright
And I will wear a badge to show my delight
And I will wear a badge to show my delight
And I will wear a badge to show my delight

I love this song. So much. I kind of wish they'd make a newer version of it because their style's changed since then... not that I don't like this version, I just really enjoy the echo-y, dreamy sound Camera Obscura has on the new albums and would like to hear this song done sort of like that.
I think its about how when you like someone, but you don't really know about them and you've kind of fallen in love with the person you've made them out to be. And then in the end they're everything you though they were.
Maybe. I don't know. Its just my interpretation.
I've always heard the second line as: "Better that records I would die for"

And the fourth line as: "With the pride, the chance, I'll show them all [ay-yah]".

I'm pretty sure the song is about the narrator trying to seduce this "family man".

I think this a song about a fan/groupie of a much older musician, probably of an indie band (hence 'the badge' the narrator of the song would wear - a typical item of indie culture)
The song is sweet and optimistic/melancholic at the same time, and the feelings of the narrator are so innocent. Great song.
