Homeward Lyrics
The hallowed lands so far behind
As fleeting dreams still linger
Like distant voices through the rain
Like grains of sand cast from my hands
I never thought I'd go this far
Without a star to cross the seas
So far from shores I'd left behind
Still far from shores I've yet to reach
I try to find the strength I need
To calm the doubts in my belief
With the will, I know my heart won't break
And if I have strength, then I've belief
If I have love, my heart still beats
Here under stars
Far from home
The picture fades, the light recedes
The sound is lost in whispers
My recollections once clear and pure
Now distant lights that dim with time
I never thought I'd go this far
Without a star to cross the seas
So far from shores I'd left behind
Still far from shores I've yet to reach
As fleeting dreams still linger
Like distant voices through the rain
Like grains of sand cast from my hands
Without a star to cross the seas
So far from shores I'd left behind
Still far from shores I've yet to reach
To calm the doubts in my belief
With the will, I know my heart won't break
If I have love, my heart still beats
Here under stars
Far from home
The sound is lost in whispers
My recollections once clear and pure
Now distant lights that dim with time
Without a star to cross the seas
So far from shores I'd left behind
Still far from shores I've yet to reach

this song is like pure ronan poetry. he could've just gone on to be the next t.s. eliot. but he chose music. the lyrics are so beautiful.
i'm surprised none of you commented on it being a metaphor of the journey that life is...its the middle of a journey between where you've been to where you wish to go. thats really all in the second stanza. i can really relate. i think this is really inspirational.
the title "homeward," rather than being a return to where you've come from, i think its moving towards home, as in where you belong
This is one of the most gorgeous songs I've heard from VNV Nation.
Very clubby, but you can't help but feel like you're drifting on a ship at sea gazing up at a golconda of stars, yet not knowing which one to follow. But those who wander are not necessarily lost...
Very well said, Buto.
Your comment is like poetry...
It makes me feel insignificant and yet significant at the same time.
I'd like to be set out to sea ;)
I really like this song - it has a very 'visual' quality to the lyrics, like so many of VNV Nation's lyrics do.
It can well be interpreted as being at sea - I can't help but think it's also about life in general. We have no 'stars' to guide us through life, no chart to indicate where we are to go.. and for many of us, we're far from parts of life that we may have left behind, but far from our destinations as well. Be strong and with your will you'll get there some day.
Another thought to add to the above, the title is 'Homeward' - as if the journey is back to where you belong.
Maybe going along with the Darkangel theme.. he never thought it would go that far, that he would get to be so far away from home.. and though he is that far, he knows he carries that strength and light with him on his journey, and it will lead him to victory.
This song reminds me of leaving England. Seeing endless ocean, endless night out of the window of the plane for hours.
To me this song also means being stuck somewhere far from home. Having to stay there so long your memories of home begin fading, but holding on to knowing you will return home. Never thinking you'd be so far from home for so long.
Amazingly beautiful song, this.
waldemar has a delusion vivid imagination. You are so off. And Chrome is about people like him. Sad.
beautiful song the journey of man, of ones soul all is needed is love and the will to carry on you can reach and achieve
