Pop Trash Movie Lyrics

Saw a close-up of your pretty face
Overnight sensation
Smiling for cameras from all around the world.
If I rewind back to yesterday
And stop the tape there
No one knew who you were but now
They're at your door.

I'm living in a pop trash movie
We star together in every scene
We'll all be famous for just a few minutes
Part of a celluloid dream.

Watch in slo-mo going frame by frame
Might have blurred my vision
Your life went flashing by where
Did it all go wrong?

I'm living in a pop trash movie
We star together in every scene
We'll all be famous for fifteen minutes
Part of a celluloid dream.

I'll wait in the wings for you
I'll read your lines to you
But now the script is final
You know it's time to go
So we'll have to say goodbye.

I'm living in a pop trash movie
We star together in every scene
We'll all be famous for those fifteen minutes
Part of a celluloid dream.
We star in every scene
And it's never quite what it seems
Neva. . .

I'm living in a pop trash movie
You know we'll make it with that pop trash
Yeah. . .
We'll all be famous for fifteen minutes
Part of a celluloid dream.
Ohhhh....ohhhhhh...ohhhhhh

[transcription from DD's VH1: Storytellers]

Simon: Nick and Warren wrote this song for Blondie, and its called Pop Trash Movie and they went up to New York and they produced Blondie and recorded the song over there. Anyway, I heard this song and I was really impressed by the song and uite disappointed really that I wasn't ever going to be able to sing this, well, not record it anyway. And I guess due to industry politics or something the song got pulled off the album. I reckon it was they just didn't want to share the publishing, you know? Thing is, the song was suddenly free. So I gave our record company, Hollywood Records in America a call and said there's this great song around and I thought we could actually use it on our album.

Warren: before the Spice Girls get to it

Simon (to Baby Spice, who is in the audience) : yeah it was coming your way actually

Warren: we were sending it everywhere

Simon: I just had to get in quick...and um, I did. And its wonderful. I think its one of the best songs that's ever come out of this band.

Nick: its a very simple song, about the unbearable lightness of being famous

Reference to Nick's late friend Andy Warhol. "We'll all be famous for those fifteen minutes".

One of my favorites, powerful song. A song about pop culture. If you get the chance, listen to the version with Blondie, it's beautiful.
