Buried In the Sand Lyrics
Can't say that I was surprised
When you broke the ties
They were hanging by a thread
But now I have realized it couldn't be the same
'Cause everything has changed.
But still I held out my hand, tried to pull you back
But you were buried in the sand.
I'm glad that you came along but here
Our journey ends
I say goodbye to you
My very dear friend
You were buried in the sand
(You were buried in the sand)
Hey buried in the sand
(Hey buried in the sand)
You were buried in the sand
(You were buried in the sand)
Hey buried in the sand
(Hey buried in the sand)
You were buried
(You were buried)
When you broke the ties
They were hanging by a thread
But now I have realized it couldn't be the same
'Cause everything has changed.
But still I held out my hand, tried to pull you back
But you were buried in the sand.
Our journey ends
I say goodbye to you
My very dear friend
(You were buried in the sand)
Hey buried in the sand
(Hey buried in the sand)
You were buried in the sand
(You were buried in the sand)
Hey buried in the sand
(Hey buried in the sand)
You were buried
(You were buried)

Nick Said: "I wrote "Buried in the Sand" about John. We'd had a conversation, and we'd known each other since we were kids. I was 10 when I met him, he was 12, and we'd been together that whole time. And we'd been on the journey until 1996 together. So it was really, really strange when he called up. I was sitting on a chair in my living room thinking, "Is this really happening?"
And it was — and I of course tried to talk him out of it and said, "Take some more time. Think about this, think about that," and he said, "No. Believe me, I've thought about it all, and this is what I have to do and what I want to do. We've had an amazing time together." Then Simon and I had a conversation with Warren, too, of course, and I suppose we were just a little numb from it." Source: https://www.salon.com/2022/10/29/duran-duran-nick-rhodes-medazzaland/
This was written for John Taylor after he left. Nick wrote it for him. They'd been friends since the ages of 10 and 11 and were the two to start the band.
Nick wrote this song about John's departure in 1997, I gather that when he returned to Duran for the reunion, he had to apologize to Nick, I wander what was said upon John's departure.
