Winter Marches On Lyrics
The trade's on
She drains emotion
To drink from her breast of fortune
Dreams have frozen crystal in the morning
Birthtime rose
A thorn for coronation.
All arise from your rest
We'll find enough there to feed you.
Soon you'll belong to the blessed
Spare us your lives while we need you.
Loud is the music the crowd is bringing
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Loud is the music the sky is ringing
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Loud is the music the crowd is bringing
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Loud is the music the sky is ringing
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
And on...
Winter marches on...
She drains emotion
To drink from her breast of fortune
Dreams have frozen crystal in the morning
Birthtime rose
A thorn for coronation.
We'll find enough there to feed you.
Soon you'll belong to the blessed
Spare us your lives while we need you.
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Loud is the music the sky is ringing
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Loud is the music the sky is ringing
Out of my head as the winter marches on.
Winter marches on...

Maybe something to do with Yasmin Le Bon's miscarriage, which happened around the same time?
Sad but very beautiful song.
This is the first of a trilogy about loss. Do You Believe In Shame was about grieving, Ordinary World about moving on. Winter Marches on is, in my opinion, about the realisation that you someone you love is going to die. The title refers to the inevitability of death, as winter is something that doesn't stop for anyone. As with most of Le Bon's lyrics, it's hard to dissect the words line by line, which is part of the beauty of this song. Combined with the haunting music, this is one of the most intimate DD-songs. As with most DD-ballads, it's a gem.
This is a beautiful song. I take it this song is about the winter dragging on with the promise of all that spring brings.
Wow. Only 1 lonely comment on this song. That surprises me. This was always been one of my favorite songs. I think Canada's comment is over 2 years old. Maybe 2 years from now someone will read mine. I have no idea what the writer was originally referring to when he wrote it, but to me the song brings up emotions in me about death, the end of love, and new beginnings. Obvious and simple perhaps, but don't all the great ones evoke simplicity?
nice comment, Proevad:) i don't have an exact thought on this song regarding it's meaning but well, it's so beautiful. Notorious is just a great record.
I loved the song in the late 80’s couldn’t figure out the meaning til later, but I felt he was talking about the poor hungry people in winter in Russia, but if it’s true they wrote that song because of the LeBons having a miscarriage it makes sense too, and I’m very sorry they went through that
