Last Chance on the Stairway Lyrics
I don't remember quite how I met you,
Wasn't long ago
Just get a picture of sun in your eyes,
The waves in your hair.
Maybe it's something said in a movie or
You could've said last night.
Just took me out on a limb
And I don't really know what I'm doing here.
And sometimes I'm caught in a landslide
My beat's so in time, can you look at me.
I'm out of reach, I'll talk if it feels right
I've had my last chance on the stairway.
Funny it's just like a scene out of Voltaire,
Twisting out of sight
'Cause when all the curtains are pulled back
We'll turn and see the circles we've traced.
Ain't no game... (oooh)
When you're playing with fire.
It doesn't seem right that we fight
So the party runs on all night.
And sometimes I'm caught in a landslide
My beat's so in time, can you look at me.
I'm out of reach I'll talk if it feels right
So nervous to say, tell me can't you see.
And if you want I'll fall out forever
I can't say no more... baby dance with me.
And please don't say leave it till later
I've had my last chance on the stairway.
Wonder why... (wonder why oooh)
What makes me rise so high
Maybe it's something they put in your perfume
Or the look in your eyes.
It could be the atmosphere sinking
Ooh, I don't know what you're thinking
I don't even know what you're drinking
But it keeps this heaven alive.
And sometimes I'm caught in a landslide
My beat's so in time, can you look at me
I'm out of reach I'll talk if it feels right
So nervous to say, tell me can't you see
If you want I'll fall out forever
I can't say no more... baby dance with me
And please don't say leave till later
I've had my last chance on the stairway.
Last chance on the stairway
Last chance on the stairway
Last chance on the stairway
Last chance on the stairway
Last chance on the stairway...

I don't know why but I like this song. It's pathetic that the Duran Duran section is a ghost town so I'm going to comment on every single song. I don't want to see zeros.
Quite simply, Simon is talking about frustrations again in a relationship and how the sex holds it together, "'Cause when all the curtains are pulled back We'll turn and see the circles we've traced. Ain't no game... (oooh) When you're playing with fire. It doesn't seem right that we fight So the party runs on all night."
But is there a relationship there? Just what I get out of it. Last chance on the stairway has to do with her stairs, not his.

Uwielbiam to brzmienie, pomrukiwanie gitary basowej Johna Taylora.
I agree with other commenters this song is about sexual frustration. There are too many lyrics here that suggest it. One lyric in particular jumped out at me this morning:
"last chance on the stairway"
I would hate to think Simon LeBon is being THIS direct, but what is a stairway for? What does one do with one? One goes up and down it. Up and down, up and down, up and down. It's all a stairway is for.
Long shot - but could the stairway in the song be a reference to the hand movements performed during masturbation?
Seems overt - but sometimes Simon is.
His girlfriend knowes he cheats and gave him one last chance to stop it. But influenced by drugs he f....d up again. Wakes up beside a woman he doesnt remember much about. Just vage immages of sun in her eyes waves in her hair some words and perfume. He tries to explain to his girlfriend:"sometimes Im caught in a landslide and my beat so in time." (saying its realy not my fault.) and asking her:"can you look at me." but he had his last chance. The first part:"i dont remember quite how i met you..." and so on he is singing to the strange woman. And "sometimes im caught" can also litterally mean sometimes my girlfriend catches me cheating.
This sounds to me like it’s about a couple that got together at a party or club or something of the sort, and has been having trouble keeping the relationship together ever since. The singer still doesn’t even know the girl well, but he really thinks she’s beautiful and doesn’t want to the relationship to end. But he’s messed up so many times that it’s his last chance (on the stairway).
