Inertia Rhapsody Lyrics
Better that we keep our mysteries intact
So no disessection, there's no charm in that
Frayed old flame, we're not the same
But you're ringin' through my chains
In a way beyond explainin'
Obsession and disgust an avalanche of thought
I am a monster at least that's what I thought
Frayed old flame, we're not the same
But you're ringin' through my chains
In a way beyond explainin'
Before you leave I want you to look over
Look here at me for once I'm sittin' still
This barn is red, these hills are green with summer
The past is dead and all is forgiven -- to be real
Petals start to snow from her half open hands
You loved a failure, now I'm just a man
All those questions that I won't ask
When I look around at the sky up above
I kick my feet in the ashes of defeat and
Know that when push comes to shove
Remain in love
So no disessection, there's no charm in that
Frayed old flame, we're not the same
But you're ringin' through my chains
In a way beyond explainin'
Obsession and disgust an avalanche of thought
I am a monster at least that's what I thought
Frayed old flame, we're not the same
But you're ringin' through my chains
In a way beyond explainin'
Before you leave I want you to look over
Look here at me for once I'm sittin' still
This barn is red, these hills are green with summer
The past is dead and all is forgiven -- to be real
Petals start to snow from her half open hands
You loved a failure, now I'm just a man
All those questions that I won't ask
When I look around at the sky up above
I kick my feet in the ashes of defeat and
Know that when push comes to shove
Remain in love

Pretty straightforward, but keep in mind I'm mostly an idiot, so this is my interpretation: it's about two lovers whose relationship is in jeopardy because she's found out about some rather unsavory things the narrator has done in the past. However, he pleads with her: "just look around, look at the beauty that surrounds us...the past is the past. I accept you for who you are, no questions, can you do the same for me?"
Beautiful, beautiful song.
HOWEVER...does anybody know what Steve is singing in the background of the chorus?! I think I can hear "I'd sell myself under", but I can't decode the rest.
I gave it a listen using out-of-phase stereo (which cuts out the sound in the middle of the stereo image) and ended up with this (lyric cues in brackets):
"[Before you leave] I sell myself under [I want you to look over] You see me as above [Look here at me] I fell without a point [For once I'm sittin' still] At the point in the place I was born
[This barn is red] I'm safe inside my house [These hills are green with summer] And I'm filled with promise ignored [The past is dead ]I still myself, (come?) [And all is forgiven] (more of them??)" [To be real...etc.]
