I was talking with Joe after a show and he told me that this song is about light pollution, but I dont know if he was being serious or not. I guess he was and the lines...

I mean it's obviously a double meaning, with the more technology that the world crams into our daily lives, the further away we get from our reality and the more time we spend just trying to keep up. But he parallels that with light pollution and it's pretty brillent, in my opinion at least. I wish more people could hear this song and this band...
I totally agree with you- Hedges is a genius when it comes to lyrics and I wish these guys would get the credit they deserve.
I think the song isnt just specificly talking JUST about the street lights.
I also think he could be talking about his home town he grew up in. And how it started out as a comfterbale small town. Then people from a bigger city come down and take over all the beautiful farm land and trees to replace it with stores and other things to do with bussiness.
