These are the complete lyrics to the song. Cool bluesy rock sound but it's got to be one of the most violent songs I've ever heard. This makes Gangsta Rap seem tame!

It did come out shortly after the time of the Boston Strangler, so the comparisons and debt is obvious, but I think here, Mick and Keith left their "victims" still living, so "it's not one of those....." The band captures the whole attitude of the protagonist in this song, which is why it is so great.

It's about Mick Jagger's lust for being a "prowler" or "stalker". Can't you hear me Knockin' is kind of a continuation of that. Possibly the 2 best Stones songs. He does refer to the Boston Strangler but he's Mick the Midnight Rambler lol.

Mr Long Rove is long away with them missing lyrics! My only comment is this is one of the few songs live recorded with good sound and effort. A lot of live Stones is bad sound/sloppy.
This is one of their best without a doubt. Thanks for correcting the lyrics. Most of the time I just spew out my opinion without reading the lyrics but--again--thanks for correcting this. Especially the "cold fanged anger" which was hilariously written as "cold fandango" in the other one. The Walrus was right in his post about the live version of this song. It is, in my opinion, the greatest live recording of any song ever---by anyone.
I'd guess you are referring to Ya Ya's recording of Midnight. The version to get is from the 72 tour. It is 12 and a half minutes and it shows Mick Taylor and the boys in all their glory. It was at that moment when the Stones truely were the Greatest Rock N Roll band in the world......If you don't have Live stones from the 72 tour you are missing the best of the best. Gimmie Shelter, Satisfaction, and Love in Vain all clearly MUCH better. I know it's hard to believe but it's very true.
Still all that said the studio version is one of the greatest songs of all time and it's what R N Roll is all about.
