Just A Normal Day Lyrics

Woke up cryin' with the break of dawn, and,
I looked up and the sky,
The air was still, yet all the leaves were falling,
Can you tell me why?

Well, I just don't know the reason,
I don't know what to say,
It just seems a normal day,
And, I've got to live my own life,
I just can't spare the time,
But, you've got strange things on your mind

Well, I just feel ,that every minute's wasted,
My life is unreal,
And anyway, I guess, I'm just not rated,
Leastwise, that's how I feel

Well, I just don't know the reason,
I don't know what to say;
It just seems a normal day
And, I've got to live my own life,
I just can't spare the time;
But, you've got strange things on your mind.

Eat a lot, sleep a lot,
Passing the time away,
Maybe I'll find my way,
Who am I kidding?
Yes, it's just myself.

Oh what an AWESOME song - back when Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson really worked together!

"RD" Sings the emotional point of view, "RH" sings the more logical point of view. Knowing the personalities of these individuals, you would think it would be the other way around. Davies tended to be more practical and Hogdson was the dreamer.

It's a song about the fight we fight every day as human beings - the emotional, pensive side, against the logical, practical side.

The emotional side self-doubts that everything is 'alright', and wonders why it feels so empty, the practical side has no time for such foolishness and tells the other side to get on with things and stop moaning.

I LOVE this song - and it is SO Supertramp because ultimately, this is EXACTLY the kind of battle that went on between the two songwriters behind the scenes.

@ctlizyrd logged on to say how right you are on this, perceptive.Long time coming but validation!!

@ctlizyrd Second that.

Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents to this discussion. During my high school years, I was instantly hooked on Supertramp with Take The Long Way Home. I have all their albums and just listening to this song right now and their older stuff is so much more creative and their sound very distinctive. I always lean more towards Roger's lyrics/songs since they relate more to me, then Rick's lyrics. Both are spectacular and they made a fantastic team together and was very saddened by their break up since they had a lot of good music to create together but do understand both sides of the story. Supertramp will alwasy be my number one group and did see them when it was without Roger in the band in Toronto, Ontario. They were so good live and too bad I didn't catch them at their peak during the Breakfast In America. Love this song and many, many others....
