This song is about a conflict between HTL and The Academy Is... . The Academy wanted certain members of HTL to join the band and HTL felt a different member was more suited for the position. Academy felt their (HTL's) choice of member didn't fit their image; they also told HTL they wouldn't get very far in the music world (which couldn't be more off). And actually, one of the lines in this song, I believe "if your backbone should find it's way home", is in reference to one of the Academy's song from their first EP.
Just looked it up and it's in reference to TAI's song In Our Defense on the first EP. It's in the last verse of the song:

THEY ARE BUMTING! saw them in birmingham at give it a name, they abso brought th house down and...I TOUCHED OMARS LEG! this song in particular is one of ma faves, their songs all really remind me of a certain spineless Ex of mine and during the time we went out i repeatedly sang "any more gutless youd be dead" in his face! I know its twisted but i love the anger that pours out of these guys in their songs, however they seem happy as larry on stage! I BUM the bitter/anger in this song, and YEAH suck on that The audition, id rather rag HTL anyday so write a come back song better than this losers!
