Cocaine Cowgirl Lyrics
Lookin' back through the chapters of your life
Searching for a storyline
'Cause the one you're livin' now's doin' nothing for you
Say goodbye to your friends and the ones who love you
Movin' on
JJ's song, it's been pushing you along
Gypsy man on a one night stand
Movin' through the night far from the lights
On an asphalt path drifting over the white line
Gypsy man nobody knows
Cocaine cowgirl
She's out catchin' eyes
On the other end of the desert skies
Takin' you down to the dark side of town
A dark side of town
Cocaine cowgirl nobody knows
Lookin' back through the chapters of your life
Searchin' for a storyline
'Cause any line is a good time for you
Readin' what the world has been writing for you (cocaine)
Cocaine cowgirl nobody knows
'Cause any line is a good time for you
Livin' what the world has written for you (cocaine)
Gypsy man nobody knows
'Cause any line is a good time for you
Livin' what the world has written for you (cocaine)

b_ecky... matt is NOT from Hamilton or NFLD for that matter.. Matt Mays is from Cole Harbour!! In Darmouth, NS. And in case you didnt already know that anyway, he makes several references to Dartmouth in his songs. "at the end of the day i will return to the city of lakes" --- Dartmouth is often called the City of Lakes
"She grew up on St Georges Lane, she drove slow and had a really fast backhand"--- St Georges Lane is a street in Downtown Dartmouth that hosts "St Georges Tennis Club, hence the tennis refference.
"Taking you down to the Darkside of town" --- Dartmouth is often reffered to by Dartmouthians and Halagonians as "The Darkside"
what an amazing song pretty obvious... two ppl, the cocaine cowgirl and the gypsy man who are cocaine addicts who are trying just to live day to day. its clear that any time he says "line" hes talkin about cocaine, not a storyline or a line on the road
this song is so sweet... and the chick in the video is really cool, there's something about her - WEIRD! anyways.. the bst line is 'cause any line is a good time for you'. yeaaaah
Matt Mays is an awesome guitar player and he's from Hamilton Ont! He really brings a great style and balance to his music with the influence of Newfoundland where he lived most of his life.
This is the best song of his!!! " 'cause any line is a good tme for you..."
He's not from Hamilton. He was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Great song, I can definitely hear the Neil Young influence here
JJ Cale wrote a song called Gypsy man, and it goes "A gypsy man on a one night stand" that is the reference to JJ and Gypsy Man
It may be referring to the song "I'm A Gypsy Man"; however, I believe that "JJ's song" is quite likely an intended double-reference (which Matt Mays uses quite nicely) also referring to a song JJ Cale wrote called "Cocaine" (seems appropriate considering the theme of the song). Most people recognize it as an Eric Clapton tune, but Clapton only made it famous.

A story I've heard regarding that song (but not sure if it is entirely true) is, upon hearing the JJ Cale song, Clapton felt it was far too similar to his "Sunshine...
A story I've heard regarding that song (but not sure if it is entirely true) is, upon hearing the JJ Cale song, Clapton felt it was far too similar to his "Sunshine of Your Love" riff, and decided to cover Cale's tune and make it his own and make it much more popular than Cale would have.
its seems to me that its about a girl who always wanted sumthin her whole life but not 100 percent sure what it is so she runs away trying to find it.She just wants her life to make sense and to be worth living but where she is now isnt doing it for her so she moves away from it
This song is about cocaine addiction. "Any line is a good time for you, say goodbye to your friends and the ones that love you" is about moving farther and farther away from the person she once was to becoming cocaine cowgirl'. "Read what the world has written for you" is not taking responsibility for your life, instead trying to escape through drugs and leaving your former world behind. Isntead of creating her own destiny, coke and the negetive consequences and sequences will create her new reality.
