i think that the first half of the song is about looking into someones eyes and becoming so enveloped in the moment that it feels like you left your own body(fingers ran off, couldnt follow them). im not sure about the second half.
"I smell my sister in the winter And my father in the fall Cross sand and snow" I think that's about how different scents will remind you of certain things, and the scents he smells in winter, maybe things that remind him of Christmas, remind him of his sister (snow). And the scents of fall remind him of his dad (sand).
I think this song is about transending into the world(Hopefully that makes sence. Where, "your eyelash was an island, and your eye was someones friend". The idea that everything was something before it was something else; or simply reincarnation. As far as, "I smell my sister in the winter and my father in the fall", this is probably about nature rather than actuall people. We all were grown from the earth, therefor we are all family.
