Dying in Your Arms Lyrics
I'm wearing thin wearing out becoming weak
Holding hands with this rope she's my self-destructive
Bleeding disease the things that makes it hard to breathe
But if I shoved you far away
This addict just starved again asphyxiated
And now I see it's you that's tearing me ensnaring me
This is me dying in your arms I cut you out now set me free
Lynched high above what used to be
In her gallows built for me
So I escaped cut this noose around my
Neck I break free to see the things you blinded me
And I shoved you far away
Now I live the life I dreamed of
You're dead to me
You poisoned my life
So I take this knife
And I cut you out
Cut you out
Holding hands with this rope she's my self-destructive
Bleeding disease the things that makes it hard to breathe
But if I shoved you far away
This addict just starved again asphyxiated
And now I see it's you that's tearing me ensnaring me
This is me dying in your arms I cut you out now set me free
Lynched high above what used to be
In her gallows built for me
So I escaped cut this noose around my
Neck I break free to see the things you blinded me
And I shoved you far away
Now I live the life I dreamed of
You're dead to me
You poisoned my life
So I take this knife
And I cut you out
Cut you out

The song is a bit Emo-ish more then metal , But its awesome that they tryed something new, I like it.. Anyways heres the meaning..
"Being with someone can be like an addiction. Gradually, you can't stand to be without them, everything you once enjoyed- you no longer care about, you become weak and dependent. Like a heroin addiction - you think you can't live without it, but you're gradually dying inside and out. Break free. ."-Matt Heafy. (lead singer) I got this meaning of the Trivium website
Well, anyways, what does everyone think about the meaning? I stared at it for a while and found all sorts of the usually cliche-ridden lyrics. But after some careful analysis I think it's about a girl that is playing with this dude's heart. He still likes her but it realizes he is getting played around with. She is holding the rope that is tied around his neck, the rope that is slowly choking him. But she is stuck in his heart and he can't get her out. He also realizes that he'll never be able to escape the leash-noose around his neck, he (literally or figuratively) cuts his heart out at the end to set himself free from her, accelerating the process that she is making him go through. That's my interpretation.
I agree with this meaning. I think it means exactly that but i think maybe she isnt playing him, he just cant cope in this relationship with her. Maybe hes unhappy and she isnt and it blinded him to what he wants and needs so cutting her out of his life is the only way he can be set free. Might be wrong, but its just my thought.

Hoobastank anyone? hahaha
Refering to matt's voice in some parts of this song
WTF is wrong with you?
This song may be an eccentricity, but that's only beacuse Matt wanted to try something different. Also, I recall reading an interview in which he stated he was listening to such bands as The Killers, saying their latest album was really good.
Strangely, if you compare the song Mr. Brightside with Dying In Your Arms, the two don't sound too different, aside from the lyrics of course. The fast...radio-friendly driven style, the repetition of the last lines of "Cut you out" (compare with Brightside's "I never")...maybe it's just me, the similarity between the two songs is arbitrary.
As for the song itself, I admit that wasn't the Trivium we all know and love, but it was unique...I didn't think it was bullshit.
Sorry if I came off pissed. =)
what the hell, IMO its a great song, nothing wrong with one little catchy melodic song on the album, but of course theres always some guys saying that this is radio-friendly commercial crap, well whatever...
I dont see how this song is crap.. the artist is just trying something new, so that theres more of a variaty on the album..hey, it may not have worked out as great as he thought it might of but its not shit.. also, think about a concert.. it gives him a break... a breather.. kind of thing.. i dont no if that makes sense but it does to me..
Yeah, this does sound like a harder version of some Hoobastank songs...but it's still cool. Very catchy. At least where I'm from they don't play it on the radio all the time, or it WOULD be officially classified as a radio song and I think I would enjoy it less. But props to Trivium to break away from their traditional style and experiment with something new. It still sounds great and signifies them as one helluva talented and multi-faceted band.
man if only ephemeral was right... i might just kill myself, but hes wrong dead wrong, they wrote a slow song... BIG DEAL, so did metallica, two on one cd, both are overplayed on the radio and still everyone loves them! (yes, even me)
About the meaning... humanflame had it almost right, but my interpretation is: The guy is madly in love with this evil woman, who is playing with him (like humanflame said) they maybe have a twisted relationship of some sort, but finally the guy realizes what she is doing with him and decides to cut her out of his life, ignoring her and not talking to her, she then tries to "ensnare" the guy back, but the guy is now happy with his new life (has a new GF maybe?) and tells it to her face that she poisoned his life and she is dead to him.
You cant imagine how I can relate to this song, its insane.
i really cant say much except that BurnThePriest and humanflame got the meaning, about a woman playing with a dudes heart, and that i think that its great that a band such as trivium tried something new with their sound like this. Sure it sounds different and god fucking forbid that someone can try something new without being criticized
