Ramble Tamble Lyrics

Chorus:
Move,
Down the road
I go.

Chorus

There's mud in the water,
Roach in the cellar,
Bugs in the sugar,
Mortgage on the home,
Mortgage on the home.

There's garbage on the sidewalk,
Highways in the back yard,
Police on the corner,
Mortgage on the car,
Mortgage on the car.

Chorus

They're selling independence,
Actors in the white house,
Acid in digestion,
Mortgage on my life,
Mortgage on my life.

Chorus

Ramble tamble tamble
Ramble tamble tamble
Ramble tamble tamble

This song is Mega Top Notch - this is my second post!

The verse is so damn thigh-slapping!

I thought the Chorus was about life on the road, but it could also mean the fragility of life, especially in the 60's - Wanting to leave the furore behind.

The verses go to show how fragile life was. The first verse lays down the frustrations down in a simple manner with simple allusions (pests in the kitchen, and the mortgage.) The second verse moves further out to the frustrations of outside the house (I think "Highways in the back yard" is a reference to pressures of the the modern world moving in on the suburbs and the rural areas and the "Police on the corner" is obviously a reference to the political chaos of the 60's, e.g. Riots and the 68 Democratic Convention.)

The last verse moves further out (which is why Fogerty was such a good songwriter) into the frustration over the US as a whole ("They're selling independence" - Vietnam, "Actors in the white house" - Reagan running for office or Nixon as a puppet, "Acid in digestion" - Drugs.) The frustration feels like life is on rent itself.

Top Notch Mega song!

What a mega top notch song!

The experimentalism of the song is very evocative of the 60's. And the haunting part in the middle goes to the show difficulty of life on the road, before it brings you back to the orginal riff that is bouncy and thigh-slapping fun.

CCR wish they were Southerners!

This song is definitely way overlooked when people consider not just the best CCR songs, but best rock and roll songs of all time.

The lyrics do suggest that its about life on road.. But I cant comprehend it.. Whatever it is.. it seems to be one of the most under rated songs of CCR.. Its such a great song..
