The song is about being in love and knowing the other person feels the same way, but at the same time, knowing the person well enough to know that they're quite complicated, and probably doesn't know how to handle it. You're opening yourself to them and hoping they reciprocate and at times they do but then pull away. You know they have feelings for you and want to show you, but something holds them back. It's a long and tiresome battle for you but you keep trying because you want them so badly. Though, in truth you know it will never happen.

I think it’s about somebody not letting him in emotionally and when she doesn’t want to make the commitment he has to say goodbye.

This song is truly fantastic. This describes love so well... When it's there, you are afraid of losing it, so how can people be completely happy and let loose when they're afraid that love will go away. And when its over, the feelings are still there, but the people drift apart...He want's to be there for the girl no matter what..but what if he cant? To me this is a song about true love.
