Walk On by Lyrics
If you see me walkin' down the streets, and I start to cry, Each time we meet-
Walk on by,
Ah-Walk on by.
Make believe that I can’t see the tears,
That let me grieve in private
'cause each time I see you-
I just wanna cry.
Walk on by
Walk on by
Walk on by.
I just can't get over losin' you, and so if I seem so broken in pieces-
Walk on by,
Walk on by,
And Foolish pride.
If I can’t see the tears that let me hide all the Tears and the sadness you gave me,
When you say good-bye
Walk on by
Walk on by
Walk on by
Just go for a stroll in the trees
Walk on by
Walk on by.
Make believe that I can’t see the tears
That let me grieve in private,
'cause each time I see you-
I just wanna cry,
Walk on by,
Walk on by...
Walk on by,
Ah-Walk on by.
That let me grieve in private
'cause each time I see you-
I just wanna cry.
Walk on by
Walk on by
Walk on by.
Walk on by,
Walk on by,
And Foolish pride.
When you say good-bye
Walk on by
Walk on by
Walk on by
Just go for a stroll in the trees
Walk on by
Walk on by.
Make believe that I can’t see the tears
That let me grieve in private,
'cause each time I see you-
I just wanna cry,
Walk on by,
Walk on by...

I love the way the Stranglers do this song. Not only do you get the great Doorsy instrumental section but Hugh delivers the vocals in such a scornful fashion as to almost change the meaning of the song. It almost sounds like he's taking the piss out of a love-whipped acquaintance. Just listen to the mocking way he says, "Just go for a stroll in the trees."
The instrumental bit I love, with the guitar....I really like that bit.
