I read a while ago that it was the drummer Opeth dropped, Anders Nordin, who played this. There was one other piano piece that just didn't quite make it onto an album (I've no idea where I can find it if this is true and I remembered rightly).

Anders Nordin did indeed write this song, Mikael said it himself in a interview.

Amazing piece. I have to say, I think Orchid is one of my favourite albums by Opeth.
