If you really think about it, kind of like all the other songs by The Network, they oddly describe our life in this time... except with robots and things of that nature. But if you think about it with more normal things, they make sense. Don't really know about the random words though in this song; haven't made a connection with those quite yet.
i think this song is so clever. when i was listening to this song, each of the random words reminded me of something: "definition" made me think of high definition tvs. "prescription" made me think of depression and being prescribed prozac or something. "centrefold" made me think of celebrity or porn magazines. i think this song was designed to make the listener think about WHY we associate these words with these sorts of things, and it's because of the medias influence over our lives, i believe. this makes sense, as if you've ever read the sort of "mission statement" from the network: "Their quest is to dominate the airwaves thus getting rid if the mindless shit that has been dominating the radio and television " so it makes sense for this song to be about the society we are living in and how we depend on television, magazines, whatever, to escape our own reality and live someone elses. i think the "satellite. disconnect. goodnight" represents how when we disconnect ourselves from the media, we disconnect with what we think is 'ourselves'. so we switch off and sleep through life.
Wow. Kudos to stopthecar!
