About a Boy Lyrics

Toward another
he has gone
to breathe an air
beyond his own
toward a wisdom
beyond the shelf
toward a dream
that dreams itself

about a boy
beyond it all
about a boy
beyond it all

from the forest
from the foam
from the field
that he had
known
toward a river
twice as blessed
toward the inn
of happiness

about a boy
beyond it all
about a boy
beyond it all

from a chaos
raging sweet
from the deep
and dismal street
toward another
kind of peace
toward the great
emptiness

about a boy
beyond it all
about a boy
beyond it all

I stood among them
I stood alone
boy boy
just a boy
just a little boy

just a little boy
who will never grow

Yes, written while thinking about Kurt. A lot of songs are hidden tributes to Kurt Cobain. Rest in Peace Kurt.. :-(

I think St. Kurt would be proud indeed. He will forever continue to be recognized as one of the greats in rock history, just as Ms Smith has shown us here, remaining forever 27.

If the song is indeed about Kurt Cobain, then I'd be pretty sure that the title is in homage to an early Nirvana song, "About a Girl". Of course, knowing Patti Smith, if she wanted to sing that song, I doubt she'd rewrite it about a boy. (That's a thing I like about her.)

I think About A Boy is my favourite song by Patti Smith. She sings it with so much emotion and so much life and i love how she is challenging Cobain, it's a plea to people who are suicidal and who are depressed that so much happiness can be found in life and to Hang On. Kurt Cobain was an amazing artist, it's such a pity he died so prematurely. Aren't there more lyrics to this song? I can't believe more people haven't commented
