Babylon Was Built on Fire/Starsnostars Lyrics

Babylon was built on fire
And the bones of useless machines
It hurt to breath
And you fell away from me

Packs of helicopters divide
Across a crowded sky
What angels did you ride
As I staggered at your side

Babylon was built on fire
And the bones of useless machines
It hurt to breath
And you fell away from me

Citizens in their homes
Missiles in their holes
And citizens in their homes
And missiles in their holes...

This highway needs rain
Across both of its lanes
Until all that remains
Is this heart and its flames
And the rumble of trains
'Neath of a handful of stars

The brightest night I ever saw
Across an empty parking lot
No stars...

These lyrics have appeared live: I had a dream a terrible dream

Bombs were falling and you were far away from me

and the woods where we sought shelter were already burning

sparks lifted by the wind hoping and twirling

and in the hollow sky, one thousend pidgeons cried and i could not reach you and the whole world died

but oh the beauty of those slender aching trees and the birds so sweetly weeping behind those perfect leaves and the flames upon the water so gently trembeling

and this nightmare like a lovesong that was between you and me

I want to say that this song is about a nuclear war. Especially with the:

"The brightest night I ever saw Across an empty parking lot No stars"

The brightest night being caused by a nuclear detonation.

Yeah, the live lyrics really help that interpretation. It's like some lovers are together and then the nuclear war comes and they lose each other and it's that kind of mingled dread of not knowing what happened to the other and fearing for their own lives while they escape.

Post-apocalyptic romance! Brilliant!

I think the line is "missiles in their hulls". But yeah, definitely about some type of fallout destruction. Fantastic vocal arrangements near the end, but even the opening ambiance is as powerful as hell. Amazing song
