1985 Lyrics

(Whoo hoo hoo)
(Whoo hoo hoo)
(Whoo hoo hoo)
(Whoo hoo hoo)

Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned 24
Only been with one man
What happened to her plans?

She was gonna be actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake that ass
On the hood of Whitesnake's car
And now her SUV
Has become the enemy
Looks at her average life
Nothing has been alright

[Chorus]
Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2, and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985
(Whoo hoo hoo)

1985 (Whoo hoo hoo)

She's seen all the classics
At least 100 times
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
She rocked out to WAM
Not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Never knew George was gay
Hoped they'd hook up someday

Where's her fairytale? Where's her dream?
Where's the quarterback from her high school football team?
Where's her fairytale? Where's her dream?
How many times will she, ask her, self what happened
To me
Ask her, self what happened
(The rubber broke!)

[Chorus]

(Whoo hoo hoo)
(whoo hoo hoo)
(Whoo hoo hoo)
(whoo hoo hoo)

She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock?
She hates time, make it stop
She hates time, make it, make it, make it, make it, make it, make it STOP!

(Whoo hoo!)

[Chorus]
[Over chorus:She hates time, make it stop]

This is a SR 71 song and the cover is from Bowling for Soup, as you can read in Wikipedia

From SR 71 article: "They're best known for their 2000 hit "Right Now" and credited as the authors of Bowling For Soup's 2004 hit "1985"."

From BFS Article: "Sales of that album were driven in large part by the radio airplay of the single "1985", a cover of a much-lesser-known SR-71 song"

As a matter of fact, in the Bowling for Soup's video, Mitch Allan (the lead singer of SR 71) appears as the son of Debbie, if anyone had noticed.

Taken directly from www.sr-71.net, the offical site of this band: "GREAT NEWS!!! "1985" By now you all know that our song "1985" has been released by another band, Bowling For Soup. Well the great news is that it is BLOWING UP! It's a funny story how this came about. The lead singer and songwriter of BFS , Jaret Reddick, got a hold of "1985" from the new SR-71 CD HERE WE GO AGAIN and loved it and wanted to record it for their new CD, A HANGOVER YOU DON'T DESERVE. We were so flattered that we said hell yeah!"

Way to go, you fuckheads, tease some kid you don't even know for being RIGHT. I hope you're proud of yourself.

does anyone else sort of think its wrong that bowling for soup asked if they could cover this song? I don't really think its wrong, I guess I just feel like SR-71 got cheated. I didn't even know they really did this song until I got this cd (after i heard the bfs cover) well its cool, they both sound good but i do like sr-71s better.

@behind blueyes There's 2 stories to the BFS version coming about. One says they asked if they could cover it, while another says Mitch Allen told them to do it since it felt more like a BFS song than SR-71.

I like the COVER. Which is what this is. I'm sure they would've been cheated... Were it their song. But as it says on THEIR website, IT'S BOWLING FOR SOUP'S SONG. They covered it.

@Jakazul No, BFS covered the song. SR-71's version came out before theirs did & it was originally written by Mitch Allen of SR-71. How dumb are you?

jakazul is right- this IS a BFS song....it says in their cd inlay that jaret n some other dudes wrote the lyrics. never heard this version but im sure it sucks cos nothin is better than BFS!!!!! oh n read the BFS lyrics- totally different to these ones

@daughterofdarkness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sy8ulwexfY Listen to their original version of the song. BFS' version is a cover, stupid. Check the songwriting credits. BFS' cover adds Jaret's name while SR-71 only credited Mitch Allen & his brother as writing the song. Jaret rewrote some of the lyrics, which is why he got a writing credit, but it's SR-71's song, dipshit.

daughterofdarkness- Most of these lyrics are the same, duh. The only things that BFS changed minor words.

@xXxRockerChickxXx They changed the entire tone of the song as well.

LMAO! ^^

lt does sort of suck that BFS stole their thunder, but it's not like they're not minting it for writing the goddamn thing in the first place (BFS get more publicity but l'd say the songwriter of SR-17 is getting more money)

l heard the BFS version first and loved it, and l love lots of other BFS songs, but after 5 or 6 listens l like this version of this song better.
