Roads Girdle The Globe Lyrics
Am I asleep
Or am I fast
You every race
You first, you last
Roads girdle the globe
We all safe in your concrete robe
Hail mother motor
Hail piston rotor
Hail wheel
Roads girdle the globe
Am I tied in
Or do I turn
Your sacred incense
You tyre burn
Steer me Anna
Am I get there
When is A, B
Oil, iron, steel
You holy three
Or am I fast
You every race
You first, you last
Roads girdle the globe
We all safe in your concrete robe
Hail mother motor
Hail piston rotor
Hail wheel
Roads girdle the globe
Am I tied in
Or do I turn
Your sacred incense
You tyre burn
Steer me Anna
Am I get there
When is A, B
Oil, iron, steel
You holy three

Andy Partridge (Who wrote the lyric) said it's an ambiguous hymn to cars and how people worship them.
I don't recommend worshiping worldly things, It leads to destruction. Rather, Worship Jesus.
Why has nobody written about this song? It's certainly the most interesting on the album. What a bizarre chord progression and driving bassline! Wot u got?
What a great song, it's a lot more aggressive and punk-oriented than the others on this album. I think it's simply about machines and technology being so widespread that they become part of life.
Love the tight looseness of this song. Brutal, swaggering, football chant kinda thang...not to mention the over-arching ridiculousness of car worship that pervades our society. Too much XTC is barely enough
