These lyrics (along with the accompanying music and vocal performance) are a fine example of the potent bittersweet brew of idealism and cynicism that makes so many XTC songs deep, moving and important. When this band is no longer vastly underrated, we'll probably be living in the days that the idealist in Andy so longs for in this song. We're weighed down by our evil past, but maybe our children, or our children's children, will finally catch on.
