Blood Is Wood Lyrics

A shattered window,
The boy is back she cried.
He burned the bed he sleeps in
Because we lied to him.
And I don't want to be here
When he comes back
Sweeping up the ashes
Of the bride and groom.
When he comes back
He'll rage against the sky
Because he knows that
Nothing's true.
You've met my uncle
He bares the family's scorn.
And his adopted son in army
Uniform.
To be a part of something
With the family
Burning in the ashes
Of the bride and groom.
When he comes back
He'll rage against the sky
Because he knows that
Nothing's true.
Slashing out the
Eyes of horses
Over fifteen years.
Pushing blindly
Dead on course
The've got him
By his ears.
And the blood's just wood.
So he hides inside.
Like a soldier born
To scorch the sky.
When he comes back
Sweeping up the ashes
Of the bride and groom.
When he comes back
He'll rage against the sky
Because he knows that
Nothing's true.

This is one of my favorite songs. I think it's something about his cousin coming back from the war and being angry at life in general, but I don't know what the chorus means.

some of the lyrics are kind of related to Equus, the play in which a boy slashes out the eyes of horses.

I'm thinking PTSD coming back from a war. Guy was a pilot of some sort and has trouble dealing with reintegrating into society ("soldier boy born to scorch the sky" "he knows that nothing's true")
