Patiently,
You slipped away from me.
It's not alright
you couldn't put up no fight.
But patiently,
the well ran dry.
You needed more water,
you needed more.
But patiently,
you slipped away from me.
Oh, God I want you back.
Oh, God I miss you my friend,
oh so patiently
Patiently,
I went home that night
and i sat down to write.
But I couldnt think of anything to write that night.
Patiently, you took it all with you.
The sun, the moon, the stars
are nothin without you.
But patiently,
you slipped away
Oh, God we want you back.
Oh, God we miss you our friend,
oh so patiently.
You fell into silence,
I hate all this silence.
It leaves me patient.
And this patience has breeded such violence.
Oh I hate all this violence.
Oh, God we miss you our friend,
but so patiently.
I will never forget it,
as long as I live,
the feel that went through the bar,
you're not there.
Pick up the phone,
they told me you were gone.
I wish I wish I was dreaming,
but im wide awake.
When we got to her house,
everybody was there.
Amazes me how you can bring us all together.
Patience, you leave me here.
How can you expect me to thrive?
Patiently, oh I wait fot you.
There's not life unless you're alive.
This patience, this patience, this patience
is silence.
This patience, this silence, oh this silence.
We love you our friend, wait so patiently.
You slipped away from me.
It's not alright

This is one of the most emotional songs for me ever. Three years ago my group of friends had two friends (which were my group in driver's training) die in seperate car accidents within a month of each other. Corey passed away on June 7, 2005, and Rick passed away on July 4, 2005. O.A.R. has been a basis for all of out friendships since we got a hold of their cd floating around Ohio State University while we were middle schoolers. Our group of friends is known as the "Crew", and we base so much by the words of the band. At the two viewings, when it came to the end and no one was there anymore, "The Crew" had our alone time with our late friends. We used the 34th and 8th album to get through it. First we played this song cause it hit us so much, then right into "I feel home". During these songs, was a one at a time last time withour friend. Then we all came together gave one last sing along to "Crazy Game of Poker" at the casket. The funeral home could hear us singing and knew how much our "Crew" meant to eachother. O.A.R. is the foundation our friends, and they will always keep our heads up.
Oh yeah, after all the pain of losing our friends. A few weeks later, O.A.R. played in Indianapolis, and I met Marc before the show. I told him about the summer we have had, and he changed the playlist, so he could play "Patiently" for us, and dedicate it to Corey and Rick.

My grandma is dying of cancer as I write this. This song (especially the version from 34th & 8th) is really helping me cope with losing her. City On Down is amazing as well and helps me to realize it's only a matter of time before I can see her again.
Kind of interesting.
"Patiently is about a friend of ours who passed away two years ago. The night he passed away we were playing and he was always in the front row, always around. He was a big supporter of the group. And then he wasn't there, and all our friends were there. We played the song at the time and it didn't sound like it did now, the words weren't the same. But I always said "Patiently you slipped away from me" at the beginning. I don't know why, it just came out. And from that day on, that song, man, I'm so lost when I play that, because I try to say a thing or two about him."- Marc
this song is incredible
hard not to tear up when you listen to it
Much like Beth Orton's 'I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine,' this song is just painful to listen to. Great song, just makes me think about people near and dear who have gone before me.
One of my friends was killed my senior year of high school in a car accident, the events that followed are sequenced perfectly to this song...from getting the call...to everyone gathering at the hospital. Can't help but not think of him everytime I hear this. Rest In Peace E.R.B
One of the best OAR songs theyve ever written, the live version on 34th and 8th is just incredible.
My niece passed away recently, and I modified the lyrics with a picture of her to be included in the program. She was 4.5 months old, and was a victim of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This song will always make me cry.
This is an amazing song about a loved one who died and it just isnt the same without them. But have patience, you will meet them again.
wow...shivers.
im listening to this right now. marc sings with such passion. love and pain.
really all i can say is wow.
