If time can break us down
And not keep us around
I won't wait
I won't mind
Not this time
I've started up the clocks
It's time I left behind
And everything we've lost
Disappears
(I'm calling, I'm calling out)
(for answers on the long walk home)
I've started up the race
It's something I can't change
And now we're not the same
I'm running past the words
To finish up the faults (can't come back)
I won't wait (won't live like that)
Not this time
I've started up the clocks
It's time I left behind
And everything we've lost
Disappears
(I'm calling, I'm calling out)
(For answers on the long walk home)
I've started up the race
It's something I can't change
And now we're not the same
(I'll find myself once more again)
(I'll find myself once more again)
I've started up this race
It's something I can't change
And now we're not the same
(I can't help by myself again)
And not keep us around
I won't wait
I won't mind
Not this time
It's time I left behind
And everything we've lost
Disappears
(for answers on the long walk home)
It's something I can't change

Since no one commented on this song after a month, I will do so myself :) Cause this is my fav. Fightstar song. Haven't anyone else heard it yet?
Yep I've heard it , excellent build up to the finale
its my fav song too. It was fucking amazing live! Can't wait till I see them again next month does happy dance and the guys are all so nice(yes I met them) charlie apologised for stagediving on my head and almost knocking me out with his geetar lol.anyway...this song confuses me slightly...I THINK it's about losing yourself...you don't know who you are anymore, and its about re-discovery, but in order to do so, you need to leave everything behind and start over new...I love the pause, when you hear the rain before the finale.I hope they release this song as it would make an incredible video.
To me, this song is about losing someone you love, be it through death or simply a parting of ways (a girlfriend, family member etc.)
'I've started up the clocks, it's time I left behind' - time has stood still since this person left but now he wants to try and get on with his life, hence the starting of the clocks.
'And everything we've lost disappears' - everything he was mourning (in the lost relationship) has now disappeared as he is trying to move on and forget about the past.
'I've started up the race, it's something I can't change and now we're not the same' - he's begun the healing process and is trying to make the best of his life. He can't change what's happened to the relationship, perhaps a sign of his accepting the break-up/death etc. And he acknowledges that they are now two separate lives, they have grown to be different.
'I'm calling, I'm calling out, for answers on the long walk home' - he is perhaps questioning why the relationship ended. He realises that the road to recovery is a long one and that it will take time to heal from the loss.
Personally, I think it is about a break-up but this is all just my thoughts. What does everyone else think?
Good shout Amethyst. I'm just saying on here I think this song's a bit of a hidden gem. I know for a while I didn't really listen to this song - it was too long and took ages to get anywhere. But anyone else who feels like this go and listen to it, its epic
I love this song took me a while to get into it but after seeing it live it just blew me away. Especially love the line I've started up this race, it's something I can't change, and now we're not the same he just sings it with so much conviction.
Most amazing song ever- most people can't see past the screaming in the middle but I think it's so raw and powerful, it makes the entire song work :) Amazing, amazing song - so much emotion and feeling conveyed through it.
I agree with everyone else, about a relationship breaking up (which songs aren't these days?); that's the only thing that fits it best :)
This song is possibly the best song ever! Charlie Simpson sings it with so much emotion that you get every word that he sings! even though i usually despise the use of screaming in songs, this is an exception and you seem to feel the pain he has kept welled inside and suddenly releases! the pain shows that the song is a about a loss and the words are phrased so people can associate it with themselves and something that they may of lost as amethyst states!
Great song and altogether great band!
I've listened to all of the supposed 'best songs ever', and this is the only one I've heard sung with so much emotion. Charlie's voice compliments this song so well. He is an undeserved-legend in the making, I will lay my hate down, and say in the next ten years... if Fightstar are not in the top 10 of the Rock Charts, I will gladly eat it.
