pet the dog
pet the dog
pet the dog
yeah scratch my ass
scratch my ear
scratch my head
please play with
play with me
play with me

oh but Jessie
it's cold outside
and I'm not coming home
I don't know where to be
when the morning comes
and Jessie you're a good dog
please don't follow me
just go on home

I ran away
dog tagged along
I lost the dog
dog tagged along
I lost the dog
it broke my heart
please stay with me
and play with me
stay with me

ah but Jessie
it's cold outside
and I'm not coming home
I don't know where to be
oh when the morning comes
and Jessie, you're a good dog
please don't follow me
just go on home
just go on home
Jessie, don't follow me
Jessie, go on home

Jessie you're a good dog
such a good dog
yeah Jessie you're a good dog
such a good dog
yeah Jessie you're a good dog
such a good dog
oh Jessie you're a good dog
such a good dog
Jessie you're a good dog
such a good dog
Jessie you're a good dog
such a good dog

go home boy

He's running away from home, and the dog follows him, 'cos it's his dog and he's it's master. And he's trying to make it go back but it won't. I just get this image of it slinking behind him and him turning 'round to chase it home. He doesn't really make it far, and when he goes home he finds the dog hasn't returned and he never sees jessie again. breaks my heart that song.

Great song .. I think the song is about a drinker or drug addict, hard enough looking after himself let alone a dog ...he wants to and Jessie wants to but the responsibilty, he can't make it work. It would be nice to read comments from people who aren't stupid, but such is the world I live in.

I think that It's a song about a man that it´s going to leave his home, but his dog is following him. He's trying to make it go back but at the same time he wants to stay with his Dog, perhaps the only friend that he has, but he can't take the dog to the place that he is going, so he ran away, and finally he got rid of Jessie, but that leaves him with a broken heart.

I never thought he was running away from home. Just maybe going some place dangerous and he's not sure if he'll make it back alive. Obviously he wouldn't want Jesse to get involved. The reason he "runs away" is to try to lose Jesse so he'll go back home

    Lyric Correction

I believe that the first line is either:

Play with the dog...play with the dog...play with the dog.

    or

Pet the dog...pet the dog...pet the dog.

The second line is bungled up also...

It's a song about someone having to leave home and not wanting his dog to follow him. Maybe he is leaving his family who don't care about him, but he knows the dog does, but he doesn't want the dog to follow him because he doesn't know where he's going or how he could protect the dog from the cold elements.

One of the most moving and heart-breaking songs of all-time.

    My Interpretation

My take on the meaning of the lyrics. I do feel he is running away from a shattered home.... And the only faithful friend who shows unconditional love is Jessie. He also loves the dog very much therefore he cannot take him where he is going for 2 reasons. 1 the reference to it being cold outside could indicate how cruel, cold the outside world really is.... Something that would completely foreign to Jessie as he is such a innocent and would not survive. 2 I think where the writer is going he cannot take anything with him. I think not only does he run away from home, he maybe contemplating suicide.

In abstract. I think he is the dog, "Jessie" and he meets a woman out on the road who he hooks up with. They stay together for the night and she doesn't want to stay with him even though he clearly has emotions. She tells him, as the dog, that he is too good for her and to "go on home".

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
